Haunted Houses have intrigued and terrified the human mind for millennia. From folk tales about remote cabins, to Victorian ghost stories, to Hollywood blockbusters, the iconic crumbling walls and creaking doors have maintained themselves as a staple of horror. Weird House Press has gathered 13 of the finest voices in modern horror to construct and breathe unlife into haunted houses of their own. In these pages you will find cliffside mansions brimming with death, Lighthouses that serve as beacons of madness, and cursed architecture with a mind of its own. In his head, Jason Parent lives in many places, but in the real world, he calls New England his home. The region offers an abundance of settings for his writing and many wonderful places in which to write them. He currently resides in Rhode Island.
In a prior life, Jason spent most of his time in front of a judge . . . as a civil litigator. When he wanted a change, he traded in his cheap suits for flip flops and designer stubble. The flops got repossessed the next day, and he's back in the legal field . . . sorta. But that's another story.
When he's not working, Jason likes to kayak, catch a movie, and travel any place that will let him enter. And read and write, of course--he does that too sometimes.

Haunted house stories are one of my favorite sub-genres of horror, but even if you're not as much of a fan as I am, this anthology and its all star lineup of horror writers, including Ramsey Campbell, Sara Tantlinger, Simon Clark, and Richard Gavin, among many others, is a must read. I can't even narrow down my favorites as every story here is at least a 4/5 star read. Most are probably 5 stars.
Horror fans should definitely not miss this book, and I will absolutely be recommending it to anyone who will listen. 13 Haunted Houses is one of the best and most solid genre anthologies I've read in years and you absolutely need to check it out.
Either way each story brings its own voice to this genre and I enjoyed every minute of it!!
I have my own favorites and I'm sure anyone who reads this will also have their own.
A KU borrow.
by Weird House Is A Collection Of 13 Haunted Houses Which Are Absolutely Perfect For Chilled & Spooky Autumn Nights With The Lights ON …& The Curtains Drawn ..The Tales Were Frightening & Yet Engaging…And My Favorite Was “The Birdhouse” The Story Of Emily & Steve …Two Adventurous Souls Who Encountered Far More At The Scare BnB’s Lake House Rental Than They Had Bargained For. Read and See. Much Enjoyed and Highly Recommended. I Voluntarily Reviewed An Advanced Copy Of This Book.
Some of the stories were a little too harsh for me (I hate rats!), but they were all well written.
This is the perfect creepy haunted house book to get you in the mood for Halloween. Just don’t read it while babysitting or working alone in a lighthouse.
I received this book for free and wished to leave a review.
