I have been canning for 40 yrs and this has never happened. These are not good for canning everyone buckled up now I have to redo everyone of them and find different lids. Do don't buy these for canning.

These worked. I’ve been using official Ball or Kerr lids for years. 2 years ago I noticed that even Ball and Kerr lids would sometimes “buckle” during the water bath or pressure cooking process. I believe this is because the manufacturers are using thinner metal than they used to, so if the ring is tightened down the same as normal, then the air or pressure can’t escape from underneath the lid (this is what creates the vacuum and seals the jars upon cooling) without sometimes bending or buckling these weaker lids. With that belief in mind, I took the other reviews on these lids (in this review) in stride and ordered some anyway. I bottled 14 jars of apricot nectar using these lids. Not a single one sealed. So I reprocessed them with Ball lids. 4 out of 14 didn’t seal. Keep in mind that I really do know what I’m doing with canning. I think the nectar has enough pulp in it that it easily gets under the lids and prevents sealing . So, while recognizing that the Ball lids outperformed these lids here, I tried them again for pressure cooking some wax beans. I was sure to not twist down the rings very tight. All of these lids sealed just fine. The lids “popped” down a little later than my Ball lids, but they still worked. So, I give 4 out of 5 stars because they’re not quite as good as Ball, but if used in this way (not with apricot nectar, and with very little tightness from the ring), then they work.

NOT GOOD FOR CANNING

Buyer Beware: These lids are not the regular name-brand lids to use with canning jars. I knew they were an off-brand, but I ordered them out of desperation when my regular lids were unavailable - produce will not wait forever to be canned!! OK...they might be good for vacuum sealing jars with dry ingredients inside. However, when I used them for waterbath canning, they did not stand up to the pressure. The lids buckled under the screw-on bands and did not form a good seal. I am a very experienced canner, so I do not think this was operator error. Also, I had a couple of the name-brand lids in that same canner load, and they did not buckle. I have never seen a lid buckle like this before in all my years of canning.
I did not ask for my money back, because I took a risk ordering them - that was on me. I knew they were an off brand. I will save them and use them with my Food Saver attachment to vacuum seal jars. But I will not use them for waterbath or pressure canning.
I guess I would say they are an ok product WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that they are NOT GOOD FOR CANNING.

I used 19 of these as soon as I got them because I hadn't been able to find any locally. Of those, 3 sealed, 5 didn't seal but didn't buckle and 11 buckled. I think these are too thin to be good for canning. This was with just the water bath method, it wasn't even pressure canning. I dug around and found some used Ball lids that I had and was able to get everything sealed with my used lids. Won't be ordering the cheapies again!

8 out of 8 sealed just fine for a small batch of peach jam. I was especially meticulous about following blue book canning instructions given that these were off-brand lids, including inspecting all jars for nicks, chips, or uneven bits where the lid seals, scalding the lids in hot (not boiling) water to soften the sealant, wiping the mouth of the filled jars with a wet towel prior to placing the lid and ring, tightening to the rings to "finger-tip tightness," leaving the jars in the canner with the heat off for 5 minutes after processing time, and so on. When I placed the jars in the boiling water, the lids properly vented a few bubbles of air as the jam and headspace heated up in the boiling water, and most of the lids gave an audible "pop" within just a few minutes of cooling on the counter. When ball lids are avaliable again, I'll go back to the name brand, but these will work in a pinch.

I bought these lids, tested them against Ball canning lids, and these lid performed as well as the Ball canning lids. They sealed with in second of the Ball lids. I highly recommend these lids. They are easy to use, and you can't go wrong with them. They offer up to 18 months of seal safety just as the Ball lids do. The value is much better though.
