It starts with a bang. Then it fizzles with a subplot that rambles too much.
Remember when Sarah wondered why things in the house were moved or different? That sub plot just disappears.
If I'm descending into a dark bunker, I'm bringing my cell phone. Sarah doesn't.
Just when things are resolved and the bad guy identified, it continues for 10 more chapters. What were the in-laws thinking? Move on!
For me, too much filler and not enough meat.

good story, quick read

In spite of the fact that I immediately guessed the “twists” in the story, it was a good read. It was not a hard core mystery, not dark at all. There were a lot more good guys than bad guys (or girls). It had the token gay people now required in any book or movie, presented matter of factly, not making a show of gay-ness, also required. The heroine of the story was a truly good person, through and through. The secondary characters had their faults, but presented as good human beings. There were a couple of instances where the reader must suspend disbelief but not blatantly. If you like Karen McQuestion’s writing, you will be pleased with this book, as it’s written in her unique style. I actually prefer her YA fiction work. Although I’m in my 60’s, those books are my favorites from this author.

My Thoughts:

In alternating timelines, Sarah Aden is on a mission to uncover the secrets of 214 Palmer Street. The house where her husband Kirk grew up, and where something terrible happened one night when he and his friends were teenagers, is the root of all the secrets she must discover.

She is masquerading as a house sitter for the Caldwells, who now live in that house, and they are meant to be gone for a month.

But others are also determined to keep those secrets, like Gavin, Clarice, and Kirk. What happened back then in that bomb shelter, where the kids hung out, almost as if it were a playhouse? After the terrible events of that night, Kirk’s parents covered up the bomb shelter, and everything was hidden. But what happened to Jeremy, their other friend? And how could she find out?

Rapidly turning pages, I couldn’t wait to find the answers, and as the narrators took us back and forth in time, we tried anticipating what would happen next, but nothing could prepare us for the journey to the truth. 4.5 star

Be prepared to want to finish this book in a day or two! Try not to plan anything around reading this book! The ending was phenomenal and will stay with me for awhile!

I loved the characters, and the relationships were relatable. This helped keep me submerged in the story. I wanted to know how all the elements connected to one another. I was addicted to this plot and I didn’t want the story to end.

214 Palmer Street is one of the best psychological thrillers that I have read by Karen McQuestion. Her storytelling and depth as a writer of psychological suspense continues to grow with each new novel. Told from multiple points of view, the readers follow the story to find out what truly happened at 214 Palmer Street.

This is the second book I have read by this author and once again she did not disappoint. A suspenseful and great thriller, I was turning page after page to read more. This is a story of deceit, when people make a big mistake, and then decide to cover it up. But like most secrets, even if it takes years...the truth comes out.

Clarice, Gavin and Kirk were friends....so was Jeremy, but he disappears after having a fight with his family. The friendship continues without him, but many years later the truth comes out when Sarah starts investigating. There were a few twists and turns here but truly a good read.

Loved the story and gave it #five stars... #kindleunlimited.

Karen McQuestion wrote this excellent psychological thriller. It hooked me from the start with so many questions. Who hit Sarah in the head with a rock? Can Sarah trust the man she loves? Is her husband Kirk telling her the truth about the threatening letters left in their mailbox? Is Kirk protective, or is he " Sleeping with the Enemy" crazy? What really happened at 214 Palmer Street when her husband and friends were teenagers?
The author takes us on a twisting, turning suspenseful journey. The characters were well written and each one was important to the story. I appreciate when the story is sharp and concise, not a wandering mess.

I have only read a handful of this authors work but I love it. Going into her books have no idea what your opening there is really no subject you can put it into. Situation, psychological, paranormal all of the above? You don’t know and when you find out it nearly hits you between the eyes. But her books end on a good note. I guess reading her books are like having a blind taste test at 31 flavors you don’t know what is going to be put in your mouth but you do know it’s going to be delicious.
