Sadly predictable and shallow

Spoiler Alert. ok... every aging actor wants a "franchise" to retire on. Ethan Hawke sleepwalks through this one, doing the same ole ticks and snorts halted breaths, and scraggly unshaven he tries hard to be believable, but is now. What all that effort really is... trying hard for a John Wick or Jason Bourne or Jack Ryan or Mission Impossible. Ouch. There is the "grey haired evil greedy old guy" who runs a mercenary corp, there are war crimes that need to be covered up, there's a woman with a child dead, there's a woman and child threatened, there are impossible violent battles with magic bullets in foreign lands. This movie is just excellent proof of the waste of time and energy in Hollywood...and why 80% of the movies made nowadays should be banned, and never filmed, and that budget $ used to solve homelessness among veterans of foreign wars in America.

This movie should be re-titled "Girl with the Magic Gun", we see her making impossible excellent head shots and tricky bullseyes, about 30 in a row without reloading... one bullseye after another going up against AR15 and machine guns that do not even graze her... wow... Ridiculous.

Not a good movie

I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane or The Godfather, but this movie was worse than I thought it was gong to be. The premise was lame. Assassin mourning his wife an child develops a moral compass around the same time as receiving an experimental medical procedure that brings him back to life for only 24 hours (hence the absurd movie title). Also the action was unbelievable and choppy. I can forgive unbelievable action if the stunts are cool. But the action sequences in this movie were edited to hell. Speaking of action, I am all for a fun thrill ride of a movie. But when a movie has this many action sequences and ignores character and plot development, it's not a thrill ride. It's boring. Lastly, there are no mountains in the Florida Keys.

more mediocre garbage from john wick producers
Verified purchase
john wick movies are hot garbage but i thought i would give this chance with different cast and crew. was ok until they tried to go a scifi-flavored evil employer/buddy betrayal plot twist full of pointless violence. not only that, but there was a 24 hour countdown to death (to the hundredth of a second) after an highly experimental and mostly unsuccessful 'procedure' of bringing people back from the dead (complete with a glowing indicator embedded in his forearm). give me a break. make some decent movies and quit pushing garbage amazon.

"I want the fish to like me." What a great line.

This was a great action flick. If you simply go into it expecting some fun shooty-action you'll be in for a treat. The movies got heart and Ethan's character really does a great job after you get past the developing of his background. It's not that it's slow, but he really takes off after it.

Sometimes you just want to watch the good guys shoot the bad guys and if you can't have that, you'll take the anti-hero shooting the bad guys and that works just as well. It's a solid flick with a good ending. The very ending was interesting, but un-needed. I would recommend this if you want to watch a good action flick, but not have to figure out the meaning of the universe to understand the story.

HORRIBLE!

I was interested until Ethan's character fantasized shooting his mark in the shower. I thought he really did it and then it jumped to his imagining it. Then when he was being worked on in a hospital for getting shot, it all turned weird. That's when I decided I'm not watching this joke of a lousy movie! Not a big Ethan Hawke fan anyway...but thought I'd give this one a chance. Waste of 20 minutes.

You'll love it or hate it.

I had to write this review for two reasons, one all the reviewers bashing it, and we (my wife and I) thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Is it John Wick (Love John Wick), no. Is it predictable, yes. However, Fast and the Furious is on what, the 7th movie? Mission Impossible, what, 7th or 8th movie? Come on! There is a lot of crap movies out there getting franchises because they have huge budgets, big name stars and are PREDICTABLE. This movie had one name star, Ethan Hawke. It was released straight to VOD and probably rightfully so. BUT, give it a try. It's free with Prime. Don't like it? Turn it off. Please my wife and I can't be in the minority of people nowadays that start a show and 15 minutes in go, "it's not our thing, next" or " this is pretty good/great gonna keep watching."
This movie won't win any awards or become a cult fan favorite, but it is a movie at the end of a long day before bed that is enjoyable and made me write a review for it.

Cool Action Thriller; A sprinkle of "Assassins", a pinch of "Crank", and a dash of "Max Payne"
Verified purchase
Title states it. If you like the whole "5 minutes in the future political assassination" type story, you'll find something to like. If you like two-fisted gunplay and cool action sequences, you'll find something to like. If you like Ethan Hawke (and really, who the heck doesn't), you'll find something to like. It's cool. Nothing ground-breaking, and yet the action is where you want it, the story is where you want it, and while kind of predictable, it is still original. It really does have a Max Payne feel to it, at times., as well as crank, and the aforementioned, "Assassins". You, the "assassin has a change of heart" kind of story. The movie is entertaining; worth my time. The box art is pretty rad, too (yes, you get that payoff; +1 for actually giving us what is shows on the art).

If you like action.....you will like this thriller!

Bottom line, I liked this movie. Plenty of good ole spec ops/mercenary type action. I streamed it and the quality of the film was pretty darn good. I had to rewind the ending and watched it twice just to make sure. Since I own it, I plan to watch it again. As others have noted, I would like to see a sequel.
