This two-disc CD called "70s Gold" is much better than a cheaper, similar effort I bought last year, and which shall remain un-reviewed. THIS anthology is a serious effort that tracks through the 1970s encompassing the most popular hits. The emphasis is more on what we used to call "Top 40" format on AM radio as opposed to "Album-Oriented Rock" (AOR) on FM, so you won't get Steely Dan tunes (alas!) but you will get the "oogah-chuggah" version of "Hooked on a Feeling" by one-hit wonder Blue Swede, double alas in my opinion. But then, that version was amazingly popular, contributing to its hefty nostalgia factor today. Toward the end of the album -- mirroring the end of the Seventies -- you will find several Disco hits here, but only a few. That way, if you're disco-averse there are only a few tracks to ignore, but if you have fond memories of that genre's leap to mass popularity, you'll have several exellent examples of same. By the way, aural engineering is top-notch.
Recommendation: Spend the extra money; buy 70s Gold and if you like 70s pop/rock music, you'll like most of what's in here.
