Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

4.0 out of 5 starsExcellent value.

For the price, this is an excellent MP3 player with a few shortcomings.

While I found the provided earbuds uncomfortable, matched with a modest set of headphones this device produces warm, well-balanced sound, satisfactory (so far) with all genres without resorting to equalizer games.

The battery life is proving likely to be as advertised, even when leaving the backlight on at all times. I'm over 20 hours use so far and the dent in the battery indicator is modest.

Size and weight are no problem--you barely know the player is there.

The controls are somewhat less than intuitive, but the learning isn't hard to deal with.

Customer service is a little shaky due to (at least with the one rep I dealt with) a language barrier that prevents precise communication. Unfortunately, this is mated with player manual written in "Chinglish" and light on details.

The capacity is there, especially considering that you can use a 64 gb micro sd--but the software sets track limits that are annoying. Unlike the Sansa device, the internal and card memories are not integrated and even with the card you have to set up folder divisions in order to go above a 4000 track limit (at least as I understand the situation). If the AGPTEK folks can alter those two factors, eliminating track limits and integrating th internal and external sources, they will have created a near-perfect player.

As is, though, it is still an excellent value and may prove an even better one as I become more adept at manipulating my way around the firmware limitations.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood for the value. Navigation: Needs Imrpovement. External Memory Card feature: so-so
Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2017
Very light. Held about ~1300 songs as max memory cap. Inserting an additional memory card does not stack onto the playlist. for example. If you have 300 songs in an external memory card. you cannot shuffle them all with the internal memory card. you have to keep switching back and forth between internal and external memory for music. When the device goes to sleep mode and you have to wake it up from the power button. You have to go through each artist and song one my one if you are searching. holding the up and down button while trying to scroll through data, navigates the volume. So you seriously have to keep clicking up and down 1 at a time. But for $30 its pretty good, just treat it like the shuffle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little player, especially for the price!
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2017

I was a big fan of the iPod classics and have been more than a little put out since Apple stopped making them. My much-loved 160gb classic recently died and I've been looking for something to replace it with. I came across this little MP3 player and figured it was worth giving it a shot, especially considering the price.

I was a little surprised by how small this thing is - it makes my iPod look huge by comparison. It came fully charged out of the box, which was unexpected but nice since it let me start playing with the thing right away. With 8gb of onboard storage this is much too small for my desires, but you can upgrade that up to 64 gb by using a microSD card. (I like to carry a lot of variety on my device for road trips.) Getting the card to stay in is a bit tricky - it takes a little bit of force to get it to catch in the slot. The ability to switch out the memory card helps make up for not having as much memory as I used to on my old iPod.

Putting files on it is a breeze - just copy from your computer to the card. I put on a couple of albums from my music library on my office computer and they copied and played with no problem. Same with podcasts I had taken off of iTunes, so no problem there either. The only problem I have come across is that it doesn't want to play my audiobooks from Audible, but I'll have to go back and see if there's an option to download the books again as mp3 files. (I'd be very surprised if there wasn't.)

Really, the only disappointment I've had with this little player is using it with the external speakers on my desk. They are, admittedly, cheap speakers and do not have built-in amplification. So if you plan to use this with speakers, make sure they're amplified. The sound quality over headphones is very nice, though. I haven't tried it out on the stereo in my car yet - I'll update this if there are any problems with that.

On the whole, I'd definitely recommend this. It's a great buy, easy to use, and does what it's supposed to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!
Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2017

I'll explain the reason why I bought this item. I have a SanDisk Clip Jam mp3 player, which I love, especially because it is so tiny...about the size of a matchbox. I also like that I can hook it up to external speakers and use it in the house. But, it's miserable to make playlists with it...a very convoluted process, and when I listen to music, I don't want to hear everything in my library, I want the convenience of playlists. So I was looking for an mp3 player that also supported wmas, and that used a memory card, that allowed playlists to be added by simply copying them to the card. So I saw this item and thought I'd give it a try. Well, I'm so glad I did! It's everything I was looking for and more. It has features I'll probably never use like calendar, stopwatch, alarm, record, video, pictures. I wanted it just to play music, and it does that well and easily. It's smaller than I expected, and surprisingly user friendly for this not so very tech savvy senior. I was able to insert the micro SD card with my music, and find it stored in "folders", then "card folders" and voila, there are my labeled playlists, in their folders where I placed them on the SD card. I can hook it up to external speakers and play music in my house, stick it in my pocket and use it with earbuds on the go, or take out the SD card, and use it in the FM transmitter in my car. I think I just retired my Clip Jam.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS LITTLE GUY... WELL WORTH IT
Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2017

This cool little guy is the neatest thing I've purchased techno-wise in a great while ( and I buy a lot of tech stuff). This thing handles more music than you can possibly believe and it sounds GREAT. At 8 GIGS it handles many tunes, but after hearing it I decided to add the 32 GIG SD card. At 40 GIGS the player contains the bulk of my entire iTunes music library! Now the earphones provided are adequate, but for exercising I use my Sony anti-sweat buds and for sitting around I plug in my Bose babes..... JEEZ the sound is OUTSTANDING. It recharges in NO TIME and plays for hours and hours. The ONLY draw back I can see is the owner's manual is lacking in details on how to transfer music data from your computer to the player.... However, anybody with a little computer knowledge (like me) can figure out how to do it. It's really just point-and-click with your mouse. My recommendation... BUY THIS THING, it is well, well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent player, with a few issues
Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2018

This is a killer player. I've been using it in a BMW for about a year with no problems. Sound quality is superb, the controls are easy to operate by feel (instead of having to look while driving), it's thin and light and fits easily into the console where I need it, and I like that the audio and USB connectors are both at the bottom of the player so the cables come out the SAME side, rather than opposite sides of the device. I love that it accepts my 32GB Sandisk MicroSDHC card with over 3500 songs on it.
The only small issues:
1. When the player is turned off completely and plugged into the USB outlet in the car, the player will always wake up when I start the car. When I turn the car off and walk away, the player will remain on and drain the battery unless I remember to turn it off.
2. I always leave the player in shuffle mode. I love that I can skip backwards and forwards in the shuffled playlist and play the same few songs over if I feel like it. However, when the player has been turned off completely and I turn it back on, it can resume my playlist where I left off, but if I skip backwards beyond that resumed song, the player will lose it's brains and reshuffle everything, so I can't repeat the songs I was listening to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great car player
Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2017

This is not a 5-star device, but I'm willing to promote it from a 4 to a 5 because it solves a problem at a reasonable price that no other unit solves. I use this to play tunes in my car. I used to own a Fiio X1, but this unit is better for a car player. I'll explain. First, the AGPtEK A20 has a long battery life--long enough for me to run off battery in my car and recharge it occasionally. That saves me the hassle of having a power cord while I'm driving. That's a real hassle since I have to get a splitter to run my Garmin GPS and my player (and the GPS takes longer to boot up in this mode because it thinks its attached to a PC).

Other good thinks about this unit is that it supports FLAC format and allows for a micro SD card. I've converted all my old CDs to FLAC format (MP3 distortion drives me insane), and I can fit the entire collection (not a big one, I know) onto 1 or 2 cards. I can even attach this unit to a PC and copy files to it--don't even have to take out the card. This A20 uses a micro USB port to charge, same size as my cellphone. It has a random play mode, which makes my wife happy.

Dislikes. Text is too small to read without glasses, wish there was a way to enlarge it for us poor baby boomers. Device is small, however, wording can only be so big, I know. It's a pain to wake this unit up, pause it and power it down. How I wish player makers had a "power slave" mode, where, if the unit is kept on, when power is applied/taken away, the unit powers up and down also. Another pain is that the power switch on the side is hard to activate. Another pain is that when the unit goes into play-standby mode, you can only wake it up with the power switch. Still, I'll give this a 5 anyways.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only Got One Day Of Use
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2018

Arrived on time. When I opened package the first thing I noticed was that it's very lightweight. Lightweight is good for this type of device, especially for those who want to listen to music with it while running or working out. But the red flag for me was this is simple TOO lightweight. It feels as if there is literally nothing inside it.
Sadly, after one day of use, this red flag only proved to be true. Although battery indicator showed full charge, it simply shut off while in use. Thinking maybe the battery had died it was left to charge for serveral hours. Unfortunately, it still would not power on afterward. Connected it to computer USB port again for several more hours and it finally powered on. Battery indicator showed full charge. Attempted to play one song and device shut down again and would not power back on.
I will chalk this up under "you get what you pay for", and have been issued a refund.

4.0 out of 5 stars The voice recorder feature is better than my actual voice recorder
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2017
Verified Purchase
If there is anything an iPod does that this doesn't, I can't imagine what it is, and it sure can't be worth an additional $300+. The voice recorder feature is better than my actual voice recorder, which cost more. The only negative is it has only 3 Playlists. What I do is arrange my playlists on the computer by prefixing a letter and number - A1,A2... B1,B2... etc. I don't know if I'll add memory or not. As long as you use MP3 files, not WAV, you can get a lot of music onto 8GB, and it is very easy to plug into a USB port and shift things back and forth from the computer. What I like most is the ease with which you can rearrange the tracks. Sleep timer works great. I set the screen to stay on, and it doesn't use much battery. (edit): I haven't changed what I wrote before, but I have realized that the sound quality is "mushy". I've gone back and forth with the same headphones, and the sound on this player is inferior to listening off my computer. If you use poor quality headphones, it won't make much difference. The MP3 player gets 3 stars, but the voice recorder raises it to 4.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk And does NOT PLAY ITUNES!
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2017

I bought this for my son who lives in Wisconsin who took a job working in a factory 12 hours a day and wanted to listen to music and podcasts rather than listen to the machines in the background all day. I chose this because it advertised such an incredibly long battery life and it worked great until day 31! Now... I have seen people say that in reviews and have never believed it...I assumed it was exaggeration because how could a machine or product just die right after a return date expires...until my son had to call me on the phone and asked if it was still okay to return it because it had stopped holding a charge the night before at work and it was literally one day past the return policy. I feel so scammed. He had to go out and buy an Apple iPod and shouldn't have had to do that because this should have done what he needed. Never again will I buy imported junk. Wasted my money and all the HOURS he invested loading and converting all his iTunes to a format this would accept...it took days to convert the music so it is NOT a replacement for iPods and does not play iTunes without a third party converter app one song at a time.
