I love this series, but this book felt a bit rushed. They list many reasons why Ronnie shouldn't go to Cuba, but they immediately go with virtually zero concern. The aunt practicing what amounts to voodoo adds nothing but word count. The overall premise of the book is fine, but the execution as well as much of the dialog just didn't feel authentic. I wasn't captured and transported into the situation because it simply didn't resonate as very real with the pace and quickness to move the plot along with no real concern for decision making. Everything is done hastily which is not really something a team of special operators would do. Maybe I expect too much, but this one just did feel as real or authentic as the previous books in the series.

At the time of writing, there's been no more Jericho Quinn books since this one was released in 2019. I've been a fan of this series or a while, and I really hope this series isn't done for, because if so it goes out with a whimper rather then a bang.

The issue here is this book is largely forgettable. If you've read any JQ books before you have an idea what to expect, and this novel sticks to that formula. As usual it's a bunch of evil terrorists on one side and only Jericho and his motely crew standing in the way of mass destruction in the United States on the other. Again, nothing really bad here, but also nothing to make it stand out against the hundreds of other books in this genre. Maybe I'm just getting burnt out on this series after reading them all over the last few months. I will say that this has far less detail then the previous book in terms of the brands and characteristics of the various guns, knives, and vehicles and that's a good thing. It's felt like product placement in the earlier installments.

The Cuban setting seems authentic enough, and there's plenty of action scenes to keep the reader interested. The ending is pretty abrupt, with just a couple of pages which dedicate a few lines each as to how the characters lived happily ever after, but at least it's not a cliffhanger ending. It's also a pet peeve of mine when authors include a sample of another book in their page count of their e-books. This book is listed at 420 pages but it actually ends on page 378. So yeah, almost 10% of this is dedicated to plugging Marc Cameron's new Arliss Citter series, which is far inferior to Quinn. Not impressed.

I'm hoping there will be another Jericho book in the future that'll finish this great series as it deserves.

This heart-pounding, blood pressure rising novel takes place on Cuban soil and also the US. Starting out in 1962 it then moves forward to the present day. (The beginning of this one brought back memories of the Cuban missile crisis to me so am dating myself...What a time in our history).

Jericho Quinn, Jacques Thibodaux (Marine MSGT) and Veronica - Ronnie - Garcia (girlfriend of Quinn) are at the center of this action packed novel. A hurricane, a prison and murders are also featured...Need I say more? There are normalization talks being held between Cuba and the US which 'may' throw a wrench into the team's actions in Cuba.

Characters are well developed (including the evil ones), plot is multi-layered and the writing is clear and concise. Descriptions include vivid imagery and your senses will be awakened. (I can still smell that chicken coop with the hidden object in it). Extremely well written novel...

Most highly recommended and for multiple reasons...Buckle your seat belt, charge your Kindle and take a harrowing trip to Cuba...

My Jericho Quinn/Mark Cameron reviews have all been incredibly enthusiastic. This time not quite so. I felt we lost the central team as we headed in all directions around a Cuban travelogue and the usual supportive bonds were missing. New characters muddied the waters and I was left with the feeling the author has moved on from the saga. If this was the end of the series It might have worked to have killed off one or more of the team. I might have felt more emotional involvement as a reader than the slow trip by two teams toward a conclusion that was wet in fiction and pretty wet to me. Tragedies still work.

After reading this series, I will eagerly look forward to trying some of Marc Cameron’s other works. I have chosen to follow him in order to keep up with other books he has or will ride. I hope to see another Jericho Quinn thriller somewhere down the line again!

Don't plan on putting this down and doing something else for awhile. Jericho has a "propensity for getting into trouble," Marc Cameron states through Ronnie. And Jericho does exactly that in Active Measures. I wonder what it would be like if Jericho Quinn and Mitch Rapp were ever to partner up?
Marc Cameron does a great job with Jack Ryan. But his Jericho Quinn novels are simply over the top !
