About the author

I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting.
I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.

And suddenly, the first half of this book felt like mostly recycled plots, and old jokes that had been worn thin in previous books in the series. The adventure was almost put on hold until Bob and company finally left the planet of the half-squatch and were able to once again find new and truly interesting problems to deal with.
I think it has to do with the nature of the story. Bob works best when there is a living villain to deal with. He needs a squirrel with an attitude to banter with, or a patrol colonel to verbally spar with as he dances around the problem of having bots without limiters in a Commonwealth where limiters are required. Sadly, the politics of him accepting the Admiral label and dealing with healing up a few half-squatches was far too mundane a problem for the 15th book in the series. Now taht does change in the second half, but the first half of this book were the slowest reading of any book in the series.
Not Jerry's best. its still fun, and I'll get book 16, but Jerry probably needs to expand the universe and plot a bit more. Bob is best when he has something dynamic to deal with, and this book seemed to deal with mundane problems.
I get that these are light hearted books, with a thin plot, and plot wholes are going to happen. That's part of the appeal most of the time. But this episode just seems like nobody bothered to review the plot at all before publishing.
Seriously, though, I've been reading science fiction all my life, and I'm pretty jaded. This series has really impressed me, and it just keeps getting better. Above all, it's fun!
Further comment -- It looks like Bob's Saucer Repair will be coming back to Earth -- will they take it over? One can only hope!
