A soul-searching revelation! Danielle Steel always makes us stop and think as we read about the emotions and situations of life that she weaves seamlessly into her characters and in THE AFFAIR, we're faced with more than one person's perspective when a torrid affair is revealed that tears a family apart at the seams and leaves emotions boiling over.

New York magazine maven Rose McCarthy is blindsided when the latest topic of gossip on a potential cover model brings to light the affair her son-in-law is dragging her youngest daughter through in Paris. She and her other three daughters quickly rally around to love and support Nadia through the whirlwind her life has become.

Nadia is hearing advice from every direction but all she can really feel right now is devastation as the man that she loves with all of her heart tells her he's torn between still loving her and his addiction to the young starlet currently carrying his child. She has two small children who adore their father and she doesn't know how to break their hearts ... or if she even should.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a drama filled read with lots of emotional upheavals and several supporting characters that lend volume to the overall story.

I struggled to get through this book. The writing is weak and terribly repetitive.
Disappointing in so many ways. I couldn't find a character I liked, believed or respected.

First off I'm 54 years old and a avid reader and this was my very first Danielle Steel book , I don't know how that happened but it's the truth .So I was excited to give her a try after seeing her on GMA and her and Robin Roberts discussing the read . I really liked the book but I wasn't thrilled with the ending. It's a personal opinion but I just couldn't relate to two of the sisters and spouses outcome. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't say too much. I'll just say that two important characters and their spouses had a big hurdle to overcome or not and I was enjoying this storyline and telling until the end .The ending was like a Disney movie but it didn't go with the seriousness of the beginning and middle of this well written book. I really think it's more of a personal experience but I wouldn't have excepted and ended this book with the Disney theme ending. Especially when you find out it wasn't the first time for the one spouse .I really liked the family dynamics and the the story it was just the ending that left me feeling not pleasantly surprised but unpleasantly disappointed in the characters behavior and his pass .Overall 3.75 star read .I will definitely try Ms .Steel again though for sure .

Terribly disappointing and boring. It started off so well. I thought we were going to follow Rose through her life but no, it ends being all about Nadia. I didn't care for any of the characters except Rose. I believe that Nadia was completely unrealistic. I just don't believe that a woman today, French or otherwise, would behave like that. Spoilers - I can't see any reason that she would forgive Nicolas. He was an ass and a childish one at that. He acted like a little boy who wanted ALL the toys. He didn't want to work to get his marriage back. The minute he left Nadia he ran to Pascale who was a complete waste of space. Nobody seemed to think it was awful how that baby was treated. It was very hard to finish this one and that ending totally pissed me off!

3.0 out of 5 stars BORING BOOK!

This book was boring and repetitive. Ms. Steel must quit writing books like this and expecting the readers to buy them. Her older books were more exciting and better written. The repetitive writing style she has must be changed. I know she is getting older but please quit writing books like this or retire from writing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Low self esteem. How stupid can one woman be?

Nasty book about a woman’s life crippling codependency. Best suited for readers with low self esteem in the last century. So disappointed in Danielle Steele. Read hundreds of her novels. This is my last. What a horrible role model for this protagonist’s daughters. Never once did she consider this. Her husband cheated on her twice, had a baby by one of them-gone a year-that’s A-okay. Reminds me of the song “ It makes no difference if you’re rich or poor or if you’re smart or dumb. A woman’s place in this old world is under some man’s thumb. So if you’re born a woman you’re born to be hurt; you’re born to be stepped on, laughed at, cheated on and treated like dirt.” An awful awful book. Avoid.

Why did I waste money on this book? The whole time I was rolling my eyes and saying really, what a cliche, or what’s the point of this book? Terrible plot, one dimensional characters and terrible ending. I remembered why I’ve only read 2 DS books in my life. Including this one. Will be the last.

It was great and as usual I couldn't put it down. Read it all the way through. It was heart warming, suspenful at times and even cold. Showed the importance and value of family. Provided numerous opportunities for young people to learn about some experiences that family have and resolve. I loved it and didn't want it to end.

I have read Danielle Steele for years. Her earlier books were so good. Lots of characters and a plot that was complex and interesting. She had the knack of putting you right in the story. I couldn't put them down. This book was predicable and unbelievably boring. I am hoping the next Danielle Steele book I bought is a lot better than this one. She set the bar high and through the years the stories have been continually disappointing. I think more books a year does not equal a quality story. Less books= deeper and better story.
