Could have been so much better

I like political thrillers and I jumped at the chance to rent this when I came across it. Having watched it, I now know why the film flew under the radar when it opened in 2018. It’s pretty awful. And, it’s too bad because it had the bones to be something great — or, at least, much better than it was. Mimi Rogers is the only one in the entire cast who seems to know how to act and who delivered her lines with credibility. Adrian Grenier was painfully miscast. As if giving him a nerdy haircut and a fake scar was going to turn him into an ugly nerd who was jealous and resentful of the main character. Please. Also, he was not believable as some political wiz kid. He came across as dumb as a brick and with a personality disorder.

I didn’t mind the sex but it was a little unbelievable. I think someone like the main character, Michael Lawson, would probably already have a girlfriend but he was just completely unattached, bouncing from one woman to another. I think they could have replaced some of the sex scenes with more character development. We only got a glimpse into who these people are.

The only thing that makes me happy is that I only spent $3.99 to rent this train wreck and not the $6.99 I’ve read other reviewers talking about.

There are some movies that aren’t good but are diverting on a slow afternoon. There are other movies that are so bad that they’re good. This movie isn’t like that. It’s just bad.

Young Political Stud tries to "out gun" the Pros.

Overall I liked the movie, and it reminded me of the poltical arena of 2015/2016 and the high stakes, and "political conservatives" touting family values, and the usual "white wash." Since we as a country have already been through four years of a Conservative Presidency, and now a new President, this movie may seem a little dated, but Politics are politics, filled with noble pursuits and accomplishments, political fixers and henchmen, and finally the Political Titans veying for the Prize of the Presidency and of course the casualties along the way.

Politics

The movie was spot on in delivering the egos, the self centered corruption of politics as well as the faulty personalities for power, position and control! Yes, unfortunately this is the reality of politics in American especially now because never before in America has corruption been so blatant in your face and supported. The rule of law has been thrown out the window and those in power just like this movie will do anything, use anyone, kill, blackmail and malign someone in order to achieve their objective!

A political thriller/twist on the graduate

Politicians, for the most part, are selfish and evil, except those few who believe in the greater good. Corenswet's character in the starring role had the potential for good, but... well, at least he dies well, albeit before redemption (spoiler alert). If you like political thrillers, this is well worth the watch, if only because so many of the actors have such great potential and it is always fun to say you saw them back when. Corenswet is probably more of a Jack Ryan than a Dustin Hoffman, but times have changed and perhaps we need bad guys with good hearts to carry the day.

Young political operative wannabe sleeps with old women to get hired by aspiring senator. Falls in love with senator's daughter while sleeping with senator's wife/daughter's stepmother. If you think this sounds too sleazy and ridiculous for a plot, watch the movie.

We finally can see Adrian Grenier again, and he des not disappoint! The movie is very good: great acting, great writing, great story. The way politics are going, very believable too.
Highly recommend it!

No, it really is...

...awful. Rinky dink sets, poor acting, dull lines. All looks and sounds so dated I had to pause to figure out if it was an '80's leftover. Nope. 2018. Really, Amazon? You need to curate your films a little better.
