I liked the first book in the series, but this one was ruined by the shallow, whiny, and useless heroine. Samantha's main talents seemed to be sex, shopping and cooking. She is so dumb she doesn't even bring a coat to Alaska at the beginning of winter. Nothing connected her to Alaska, not even the hot, sexy hero, and she spent most of the book complaining about the weather. Who wouldn't want to embrace the majestic beauty of Alaska and experience it with a local. Instead, Samantha complains about riding an ATV, ice and snow on the roads, plane rides, small towns. She is such a wimp I just couldn't wait for her to go back to San Francisco by herself. What real man would saddle himself with a woman so stupid, shallow and selfish. The pregnancy was unnecessary and annoying. The Russian mob makes the reader suspend credulity in a big way. This book should have been a suspense and romance I couldn't put down, but instead it dragged through Samantha's endless, stupid whining.

Arrived in great shape. I had already read the prequel to this series and have acquired the rest of the series. This author is very good as I have read some of her books. Nick Brodie is featured in this book and he was a homicide detective in Anchorage before his last case of tracking a serial killer made him decide he no longer wants the nightmares associated with homicide cases. While he is deciding what to do next with his life, he gets drawn into helping the boy next door and things escalate from there. Very fun read. Looking forward to reading about his brothers.

After a few weeks he asks her to come to Alaska, she finally agrees then comes death, fire, missing people, a Russian group of thugs and lots of suspense. A good read.

A good romantic suspense,but I dread to say,because I love Kat Martin's books,not one of my favorites.The quick fling knowing they have nothing in common starts out the book on the wrong foot for me. I cant really say wgat is wrong with this particular book except to say there just did not seem to be a real romance involved.I actually disliked both characters.I didnt care whether they got together or not.They were both selfish unloveable people . That being said; the rest of the characters were good.I was more interested in the boy and his aunt and her love life then the main event. It is well worth adding to your Kat Martin collection,but not my fave.

Kat Martin, you did it again. You wrote a thrilling story filled with lots of action and never slowed down a moment. Your fact finding about weaponry is amazing. I felt I was in the battle between the good and bad. I loved Jimmy and his dog. Samantha was a website and computer guru that helped the pet saloon industry. She and her partner opened more and more businesses. Sam was in Las Vegas for a convention and met up with Nick Brodie when a drunk fellow began pushing her around in a hotel hallway. The rest is the story of Against the Sky and I loved it. Action in Alaska was continuous as drugs, prostitution, money laundering and other assorted crimes were investigated and criminals were arrested. This author makes each and every page interesting and I was spell bound. Then there is the Epilogue and I smiled. Thanks for a great book.

Kat Martin always delivers a good story. The plot line is a major part of the story, not just a weak carrier for the romantic interest. And the romantic inteest side of the story, while relatively predictable, is believable with strong, likeable characters. I have always enjoyed how she gives the main characters equal voice to their thoughts about whatever situation they are striving to overcome, as well as what their feelings are toward their romantic counterpart. She even allows some of the minor charcters a voice. So curl up with a cup of coffee (or tea) and relax with Aginst the Sky. It's a good read, and if you've kept up with the series, you will enjoy seeing characters you've met before as well as meeting new ones.
