Waste of time

Like most others have said before, a total waste of time which fails at the very end. Please don't string me along to tell me you ran out of ice cream, that is just stupid.
So how do you go to a place looking for dead people buried in the ground and don't even bring a shovel or metal detector. Then they show how amateurish they are by pointing at nails on trees? Nails that were holding horseshoes and were not even rusted after 55 years and the horseshoe which is 20 times thicker is not even there. Did anyone date the trees? How old were those trees?
Don't bother. Even if 90% of this documentary is true, that 10% that is way out there makes it fail miserably. Thank God this was Prime and didn't have to pay to rent.

Well done interviews and reenactments but completely unravels at the end

Spoiler alert- So they find a deathbed confession and get a description of a murder scene from 1962. They think they found the site that's supposed to have the buried remains of the three convicts along with two handguns, and a buried box of of horseshoes. There was supposed to be horseshoes nailed to the trees to tag the area. So after the entire film goes over the escape with well done interviews and re-enactments it looks like they quite literally lucked on the exact spot that can close this case once and for all. And for all the time spent, travel expenses, film gear, and trouble they show up to the site with not a shovel, or a metal detector, or a ladder to check the trees. Maybe they should have taken their research to the local Harbor Freight and for $100 they could have been outfitted to start the analysis. Just don't call these film makers with a tip on Hoffa or Kennedy.

If there were any and I do mean any facts or truth to this BS story than that whole area would have been an epic archaelolgical dig with all hand on deck. The two biggest flubs that prove that this was all a lie sold as a Documemtay were one, he said that there were a number of landslides over the years that permanently changed the land but yet the rocks with the Yellow and Red paint were easly found and the highway that is only 30 feet away and has been there since forever is still the same. Two, if there is a box of horseshoes buried marking the spot why is it that nobody has a metal detector on the first or second trip? Finally, why is it that he can't get a death certificate on this guy when it is pubic record and why not look for a birth certificate or any other document to prove this guy was real or even his friend Robert? COMPLETE GARBAGE!!!

Like watching Geraldo Rivera opening the secret Al Capone vault. All hype, no substance. This movie/documentary was equivalent to that. I gave it two stars because they did provide some good historical background about the rock. The story was pretty slow and repetitive. They could have cut out at least 15 minutes of rerunning what was already said. What did it in for me was when they finally thought they got the right spot and didn't bring a metal detector or any kind of equipment to dig up what they thought was under the ground. Also, when the one (I think) sheriff said even if they did find anything, they wouldn't tell the public, I thought, "What the heck?!! Why film all this stuff only to NOT reveal what they discover???"
Long story short, watch if you want to learn a few things about Alcatraz that you might not know, but don't watch to verify a theory of what happened to the escapees.

This is my all time favorite unsolved mystery, it has always fascinated me since I first saw the original Clint Eastwood film in 1979, a true classic indeed. The documentary was well narrated and put together which made it entertaining as well as informative to watch. I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 because there were some critical loose ends at the end of the film that should have been addressed but were not.
Addressing the mystery itself I have always believed that the three men made it off the rock because there was not one of them that ever turned up in the thorough search of the bay following the escape. It makes sense that the men did escape with the help of the two boatmen and were then later robbed, murdered, and buried by them in Washington. Does that mean that it did happen that way? Perhaps, and whether they survived and went on to live the rest of their lives as free men or died and ignominious death -- by the hands of the two thieves with no honor among thieves -- may never be known; but one thing is for sure, not one of them ever surfaced after their escape from Alcatraz, ever! So that tells me that they either drowned in the bay (which I refute as plausible since not one of them or even a morsel of them was ever found in the bay) or they most likely died by the hands of unscrupulous robbers who ruined the whole thing not only for Frank Morris and the 2 brothers but for their families, their friends, and their future fans around the world who hoped that they would have been able to find new lives and have a second chance at life with a fresh start. Personally I have always hoped that they survived, but after watching this film I am faced with the grim possibility that their bones rest in a cold and shallow grave that will never be found.

A lot of speculation to say the least. Being an avid boater, the biggest bust to this theory is how a group of thugs picked up the three escapee's in a small it appeared 25' boat at best in the Frisco bay and then made it all the way to Bellingham, Wa. undetected, etc. Give me a break. It would take hundreds of gallons of fuel, stops, etc. to travel 600 miles up the at times rough seas of the pacific coast. The crazy thing is no one brought this issue up in the show. Also your telling me the criminals families could have raised 60k in 1962 and then trusted it to some low level thug to follow through with the escape plan.

interesting investigation. one major problem. they didn't finish it. why release a film dedicated to this mystery, have a pretty good idea of the ending, and then stop? put it on hold until you can complete your quest! you waste everyones time. I watched this for nothing. I hate these kinds of documentaries.
