So loved the dark horse comics and the novels but this is a flat out reboot with no need other than Disney wanting to own this series like they do everything else now. So now there are “alpha” xenomorphs? Woman in the darkness? Why do aliens have to have a “purpose” the entire concept of xenomorphs was an almost insect like entity that killed to survive, now it is being lead by a human like being. Next it will be Predators are really humans from the far future.

Life-long Alien/Aliens fan, be it the movies, the comics, the novels (but not the games...not since Colonial Marines)... There have been low points in the franchise, from "3" not being the epic sequel on Earth it was planned as, to "the newborn", and Prometheus' horrible retconned origin. But none of those things were complete deal breakers.

This story is a deal breaker.

Trying to avoid too many spoilers, there is now a human-shaped Xenomorph SuperQueen? Princess? There is something xenomorph-like, but also shaped like a human woman. So Marvel's Aliens is ripping off the 1995-2007 "Species" films, which were already a ripoff of Alien and more of HR Giger's horror-erotica art.

If you erase all moments of the sexy alien "Visions", or had they been actual hallucinations, I would say this is a damn fine story, and amazingly drawn. But as written, this comic ignores or rewrites series canon for something worse.

Pretty well-done and highly reminiscent of the tone of the first (and best) two films. It ambitiously tries to weave in some of the utterly terrible Prometheus & Covenant lore, with some success, but there's no denying that mixing the lead in with the gold has rendered the overall integrity of the plot ambiguous. The fact the volume ends on a cliffhanger also doesn't help. And finally, while the focus on human drama is well-written and helps drive the story, it also drags focus away from the core appeal of any Aliens media: horror and action. Still drew me in and will check out next volume to see how this goes.
