The art was stylized, but somehow added to the stories. Not sure if that's good or bad, but you could tell when when something should be paid attention to. The art got cleaner.
Then I read All-Star Superman. My whole perspective on what makes Superman great changed, and with it I gained far more respect for him. The thing that makes Superman special in these comics is the one thing few writers get right about him at all outside of comics. Superman isn't just an overpowered alien, and he isn't all about what he can do and how much more powerful he is than anyone else. Superman, at the end of the day, is still a man. He's a farmboy from Kansas who loves his parents and fell in love with a city girl. He's a guy who, no matter the cost, no matter what gets in his way, always wants to do the right thing. He's easy to get along with, always looks out for those who cannot look out for themselves, and never leaves those in need behind. Superman isn't just a super-man, he is the embodiment of hope itself.
If you want to read something that will help you understand what all the hype behind Superman is, or if you're a long-time Super-fan who hasn't picked this up yet, I highly recommend this book. Trust me, it is the quintessential Superman story that must be read to truly appreciate the Man Of Steel and what he stands for.
The condition I recieved my copy is acceptable. There are a few dents and scratches on spine but it doesn't bother me too much. The paper is quite thin so be careful when turning them!

Because death is so near, superman wants to live the best he can, which leads him to really ponder at where he is in the world and how his absence could affect others.
All-Star Superman is an analytical take on superman, and that's the strongest part.
Must read for anyone.
Regarding the story, art and quality of the comic... it's a classic. It's probably one of the top ten Superman stories of all time. It seems like a fairly straight forward narrative but there are so many layers to Clark/Superman that come out throughout the whole story. The combination of silver age elements with adult storytelling is really something. The art is beautiful and colourful and you just want to explore every panel. You won't be disappointed by this excellent Superman story.
I give it 5/5 stars for being a timeless Superman story and you can get it for a rather inexpensive price and relive one of the big blue boy scouts greatest adventures all you wish.

This is a fun pulp comic that does more justice to the core character than, for instance, the recent films. Superman shouldn't be edgy. The challenge of writing him is to make his combination of simple decency and godlike power interesting. By that criterion, this take is way out ahead of the pack. However, being better than bad media isn't enough to make something good. This comic isn't challenging in any way, and it's actually trying to make a point of not breaking any new ground. Instead, it's a homage to a character who is already very well-loved and who has recently been badly misunderstood. Hardcore Superman fans are always going to be there for that, and I guess they deserve to get what they want. Personally though, I'd rather read something a bit less safe. The reason for the bad, grimdark versions of Superman is that a lot of people feel the same, but in attempting to make something more interesting they just made something that was pedestrian in the opposite direction.

For those who want just laser eyes and punching, this is not the book for you. I think Superman throws 1 punch during the entire book.
Makes me so sad that Hack Snyder has changed the popular perception of Superman into an indifferent, superior, mopey misanthrope with a god complex (who commits war crimes and murders people). When that is not supposed to be the default version of Superman.

The story is wonderfully told and the artwork is simply stunning, with a Clark Kent who is a solid wall of muscle and bulk, but cleverly hidden by posture and apparent clumsiness.
Anyone who loves the concept of Superman would serve themselves well by reading this story.
