USA Today Bestseller
New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Wildstone with the touching story of finding your place in the world—and the people who make it home.
Piper Manning’s about as tough as they come, she’s had to be. She raised her siblings and they’ve thankfully flown the coop. All she has to do is finish fixing up the lake house her grandparents left her, sell it, and then she’s free.
When a massive storm hits, she runs into a tall, dark and brooding stranger, Camden Reid. There’s a spark there, one that shocks her. Surprising her further, her sister and brother return, each of them holding their own secrets. The smart move would be for Piper to ignore them all but Cam unleashes emotions deep inside of her that she can’t deny, making her yearn for something she doesn’t understand. And her siblings…well, they need each other.
Only when the secrets come out, it changes everything Piper thinks she knows about her family, herself…and Cam. Can she find a way to outrun the demons? The answer is closer than she thinks—just as the new life she craves may have already begun.

Piper has enjoyed her freedom and independence from parenthood but welcomes back her siblings with open arms and unconditional love. As an EMT she lives an exciting life and one night during a terrible storm she may have finally met her match, handsome Camden Hayes, who happens to be visiting his father who is also Piper's neighbor, and someone she cares for and looks after frequently. There is an instant attraction between the two, but love is never that simple right. They have some hurdles they need to jump over before they can commit to each other.
I didn't enjoy Piper's siblings, any time the story focused on them I lost interest. I think it may be because they seem whiny and needy. I didn't enjoy their parts in the book, and Piper's brother, CJ, definitely has a major part in the story. If you're a first-time reader of Shalvis's novels, I'd choose The Lemon Sisters or something a little less annoying.
Piper Manning is an EMT in Wildstone, California where she spent her growing up years. She and her brother Gavin and sister Winnie landed at their Grandma’s after their parents died, and she pretty much raised them. Now she’s working to fix up the house to sell and get on with her life. Her siblings are settled, or so she thought.
Cam Hayes works for the DEA and is a Coast Guard Reservist. His parents separated and he grew up with his Mom, his brother Rowan with his Dad Emmitt in Wildestone. Cam is back visiting with his Dad trying to get past the death of his brother. Cam met Piper in a bar with her friends celebrating her birthday....something she did not want to do. He was random Hot Guy to Piper. She visits her next door neighbor every day to check on him, he was recently diagnosed as a new diabetic, and doesn’t like to follow her rules. There she meets Hot Guy, who she finds out is Cam. Despite neither of them wanting to complicate their lives, Cam and Piper have an immediate attraction. Their banter is hilarious, and and soon they can’t deny their romance. Add the return of her siblings, each with their own issues, wondering just how long Cam will stay, and her wanting to control everything this story totally entertained me. It can be read as a stand-alone, no cliffhanger and of course a HEA.
I highly recommend this and all Ms. Shalvis’s series.
Piper Manning had me at hello ... okay, so more like at the part on page one where she admits to hating being the center of attention to the core of her being. She's had a hard life, and raising her siblings was a daunting task. Now that they've finally gotten out into the world on their own, she's ready to get the property inherited from the grandparents fixed up and sold and finally get started on achieving her own dreams. Yeah, that was the plan ... but now she has a man she can't seem to pull her attention off of hanging around and a full house of siblings refusing to leave again. Secrets are rearing their ugly heads left and right ... and it's all about to get way too real.
I highly recommend this book to anyone enjoying a complex emotional story filled with laughter, love and a whole lot of heart. This entire series has been top notch and I'd encourage you to go back and catch them all. I love Wildstone!

Piper is the main character, a truly strong, independent woman who has sacrificed much to raise her siblings, just when she truly believes she can see the light at the end of the tunnel and a chance to start living the life she wants fate bounces her siblings back into her life with all their attached drama and baggage! Fate also brings new "hot guy" Cam into her life at the same time, he has his own demons and heartache to battle but their growing relationship is wonderfully written. Piper has always put everyone else first, she uses her journal and beloved lists as an emotional crutch but desperately wants someone to simply put her first and love her although she ultimately believes she is not worth it.
It's a story of chaotic issue-filled family life with wonderful characters who are far from perfect, but they deal with what life throws at them in the best way they can or at least what they think is the best way. The bonus of this story is you also get the interaction and stories of the secondary characters Gavin, Winnie (Piper's siblings) and Emmett (Cam's Dad).
Never really having read a Jill Shalvis story I didn't like it's hard to pick favourites, but this has to be one of them, a truly excellent read that I highly recommend.
