May there always be an Otto and Elise in this world.

It's not an action flick. It's a based-on-reality poignant and classic story of David and Goliath, of the powerless finding a power niche and doing what they could do to fight the wrong of the powerful. It's well acted, well directed, and overall well done. This is a movie of honor. It seems we are short of honor in this world. But if we have an Otto and Elise, we shall have honor.

Even under the worse dictatorships acts of resistance are possible
Verified purchase
In Nazi Germany what could one man and woman do to resist Adolf Hitler? That’s the topic of Alone In Berlin. Brendan Gleeson and his wife Emma Thompson are bereaved over the loss of their son who was a soldier in the German army. Gleeson decides to write small postcards denouncing Hitler and placing them around the city. The first part of the film is about their loss and then their defiance of Nazism. The second part becomes a cat and mouse game as they are hunted by police inspector Daniel Bruhl. He plays a complicated figure. He is a committed policeman dedicated to collecting clues and evidence. At the same time he is offended by the SS and their brutality who he has to work for. It raises the question of why he is doing his job.

Overall Alone In Berlin is a powerful story and based upon true events. It shows that humanity can still exist in the worst dictatorships and the strong minded can find ways, no matter how big or small, to fight against the system of oppression. Gleeson and Thompson are fantastic in their roles and cute as well as their effort brings them closer together after the tragedy they went through. Bruhl is great as well.

Gripping True Story!

This was a very gripping story of the pains of war on those left behind. I found that the suspense captured and held my attention. The acting was superior and I would recommend that you watch it. It is even more important to realize that the story is true.

Resistance May or May Not Be Futile

An interesting film based on a true story about a couple who resist the Nazis by leaving anti-Nazi postcards around Berlin. Two fine actors, unfortunately, don't get much to do, and the cat and mouse game with the Nazi police doesn't really evoke much tension. There's not much left at the end, although the husband's devotion to his wife is compelling.

There are always exceptions t the rule, even in Nazi Germany
Verified purchase
A much needed story of how not everyone in Germany was ready to follow Hitler, even at the ultimate price of their own lives. And how it affected some of the police as well, whose heart was not in the terror.

Amazing story of courage -

When people live without freedom and rights and truth, they fight back as best they can. These courageous people did in their own small way and in doing so found strength and hope - Throw sand in the machine even a little at a time - Americans better do the same thing!

Very good.

This was an interesting, very well-made movie. I didn't know anything about the true story, beforehand. It's a quiet but very moving, well-acted gem.
