Jim Gaffigan needs a poptart or two for his performance!

My Gawd, I had no idea just how creepy Jim Gaffigan could be. But part of that is I have only always known him as a comedian. So when comedians go for serious roles, it always feels more eerie.
That being said, he was OUTSTANDING!
As dark as he goes in his role, he is still not the most effed up character in the movie.
It kept both my husband and I on the edge of our seats.
When a certain unnamed and unspoiled tragedy occurred, we both audibly remarked, "omg nooo"... we felt his heart at that minute.
His panic.
His guilt.
He was incredible.
You wont believe its Jim Gaffigan.
The best Amazon Prime purchase ever.
Without a doubt.
Thank you Jim Gaffigan and Amazon.

Suspenseful movie and Jim Gaffigan is a revelation
Verified purchase
I heard Jim Gaffigan was really good in this movie, and I absolutely agree. He does a great job and is very believable in this role. Overall, the movie is a bit dark, troubling, and uncomfortable as you watch this man struggle in the downward spiral his life has become, as he continues to make one poor decision after another. Yet, you can help but root for him as an every-man just trying to make sense of his life and figure out a way to get it back on track, even in spite of him doing the unthinkable. This all speaks to Gaffigan's convincing performance throughout the film.

Can We Give Less than One Star

If you like movies with no plot or storylines, this is the film for you. The trailer suggests that JG is a regular guy, down on his luck, that stumbles into kidnapping a kid. However, like too many other movies, it makes mental health a one-size-fits-all explanation for bad behavior. In fact, it was basically a 90 min running stereotype where all ppl of color were either drug dealers, drug users, and motel attendants. (To make UC Berkeley grad/co-star Robbie Jones look more menacing, he was made-up w/ black lipstick ONLY on his bottom lip. Really?) If you want to see JG act creepy, watch the L&O SVU where he plays a molesting foster parent. Otherwise, send these producers a message that they need to work harder to create entertaining content and stop cutting corners with formulaic portrayals.

1 star: couldn't watch more than 15 minutes. Unwatchable!
2 star: jumped my way to the end for the ending. Unwatchable, but interested in how this turd ended.
3 star: watched it all, but not happy about it. Nothing better to do.
4 star: I watched it, liked it well enough. Would never watch it again.
5 star: Great moving picture show! I'll watch it again, and maybe again in a few years.

Gaffigan is NOT a comedian here!

Huge fan of Gaffigan and what a superb acting job from a comedian! This film is dark, disturbing, and shocking. Didn't expect Gaffigan to do so well but what's surprise he was playing his exact real life opposite. If you can just remember it's only a movie, and NOT a feel-good one, it's worth watching!

No redemption, no revelation, no point.

The acting and production are fine, even the story of Cam (Gaffigan) attempting a kidnapping to extort money from his drug dealer "boss" is credible. Other than the children, whose roles are incidental, not a single character earned my sympathy, and that includes Cam's estranged wife who, frankly, is a shrew. But there is no moral tale, no parable, no insight into the human condition. It's merely a story about an otherwise ordinary guy who gets mixed up with a criminal and we're along for the ride as his life spirals into the abyss.

I didn't know what to expect from this movie but was shocked to see Jim Gaffigan in something that wasn't a comedy. There are parts of the movie where people make unusual decisions necessary for the story to go forward. Other than that, the movie was riveting.

This movie made my stomach hurt and gave me anxiety. The actors were amazing and scary as hell. Jim Gaffigan, you are the sweet, funny guy that everyone loves!! You did an unbelievable acting job in this movie. Also very proud to see that the making of the movie is associated with my local area of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Suffolk, Virginia.
