I enjoyed the first 4 books in the series and this book did not disappoint. The book kept my interest throughout the story and was able to build on the events from the last 4 books. I liked that this book had more scene interactions between Kate and Aron again, even though I was a bit frustrated with how she was treating him. I am looking forward to seeing how this develops and for there to be more scenes of them working together again. I missed their dynamic as a team, even though her new "team" dynamics is entertaining. Also, it was good seeing Kate become more confident in her skills. You can really see the growth in her as a character as she becomes more confident in her powers, making her own decisions and becoming more of a leader. I am looking forward to reading the next installement in this series.

Book five will make you need book 6

Aron is alive,but is he really? Medicine moves on and magic,though still not perfect, does help more. She now is looking for the mage who is behind it all,and the twists are quite fun. I really liked this one and look forward to the last one. I guess I have become a SA Magnsson follower. I really like the descriptive way she covers topic we do not read about very often, and she has finally stopped repeating what the main character worries about so much. Either that or I have gotten used to it.

Book Five takes several unexpected twists and turns as several of the primary characters have the new magic grab them and change their lives and magical ability. One questions her commitment to her medical career; another struggles to retrieve list memories, and another can't decide whether she wants to be involved in magical realms.

This book is a page turner. Do you need to have read the first four books? I think you do to get the full effect of the many different threads.

This 5th book in the Medicine and Magic series continues Kate's quest to find her place in the magical world. Aron still has partial amnesia and Kate continues to try to restore his memories. Kate's adventures continue to entertain. I look forward to the next book. Enjoy!!

I enjoyed the book. The storyline kept my interest and develops well. My only complaint is the main character continues to have no romantic connection. She talks about the possibility with Aron but it continues to be nothing. I wished there was more detail on Aron and his lack of memory. I look forward to the next book and continue to hope the main character will finally have a love life.

It is just so good! To the point I keep telling myself to start the book earlier so I don’t stay up late as I can’t put it down. Now here we are two am and the book is finished. Man what a ride! So INTENSE! Beyond exceptional read and can’t wait for the next book!

Anaphylaxis keeps you in a state of suspense that leaves you guess at everything you think you've figured out! The story has so many facets to keep track of and piece together to TRY to see the big picture and end game! Can't wait to find out how things end!

Note: the urban fantasy series follows an overall story arc and the characters and their relationships develop, backing the plot development. So starting here would prevent you from enjoying it to its fullest. I recommend to start with „Flatline“.

So the last book ended a bit cliffhangerish with Aron being back to life, but missing his memories and overall being a changed person. Kate works with him, but it seems to be of no avail. Worse, there is someone traipsing around the city doing something to the rivers that has Kate react badly to it, magicwise. And this new opponent has a kind of magic that Kate hasn’t too many means against, but she still has to stop the proceedings, because it all is somehow connected to the Veil. As is now common, the ones who support Kate, aren’t mages from the council, but the members of the Dark Council. And, I’m sad to say, the non-magical and useless sidekick Jen. I so hoped that she would just evaporate out of the story, because she doesn’t feel like a living, breathing person, but some stand-in, „the best friend“. And whenever Kate decides to take Jen with her, I ask myself: „Why would you act so stupid?“ I mean, Jen is a liability and unable to protect herself. It doesn’t make sense. I do like Barden more and more, but aside from Kate, he is the only character who feels like a full fleshed person.
And so I really can’t give more than 3.5 well meaning stars, because although the book is really gripping and the plot is fast paced and interesting, the characters lack a bit. Especially considering that this is book 5 of the series. People should be developed better until now. But yes, it’s entertaining urban fantasy with new ideas and a good plot.
