You love them....you hate them.

You love them. You have hate them. You feel sorry for them. You cheer them on. You are excited or them. You want to see them win. You want to see them get arrested. You want to be them. After binge watching the season, you feel dirty like YOU just did something wrong.
Good writing and acting. Smurf, the mother is a weird one, almost like she has a sexual attraction to her boys. A smart, dominating woman with her own demons.
I have never watched an original show on TNT until now. I hope TNT can step it up with gritty TV like this and become a leading competitor in tv shows.

Ellen Barkin in her wickedness is great!
Verified purchase
Initially I wasn't sure I could watch this. It is very dark. Ellen Barkin nails the role of the controlling and vengeful mother. Her relationship with "her boys" is at times disturbing but the storyline does well in showing the harmful and truly devastating effects a domineering parent can have on the kids. Barkin simply steals the show. She is cold hearted and manipulative and runs the family business through intimidation and greed.

If you liked Breaking Bad
Verified purchase
If you liked Breaking Bad, Justified, and/or Good Behavior, you will love Animal Kingdom! My husband & I enjoy watching TV in the winter months more and we were sad that we binged watched the whole season in like 3 days! When it was over I immediately looked to see when the next season starts. Animal Kingdom is suspenseful, thrilling, and draws you into the plot- making you forget all the political drama and crap going on in the real world. We enjoyed it!

Very Worthy

Powerful acting by the base characters. Ellen Barkin is amazing as Mama Smurf. Even more riveting than her in Johnny Handsome or Bad Company which were films earlier in her career. Watching Jay evolve into the family dynamic where he is first timid and then slowly seduced into the fold is perfect and handled with alacrity. This is very worthy of binge watching and I am pleased to know that it has a new season coming up. I like the location, having lived in Oceanside in the mid 90's, so some places are recognizable to me. Almost as compelling as Breaking Bad or The Soprano's.

Growing to like it!
Verified purchase
I am growing to like this show better. It me took me until the last two episodes to really change my tune about it. Ellen Barkin IS THE BEST in it. She really works her role. I am sticking with this because I didn't care for the first season of How To Get Away With Murder either ... but, it is now my favorite show.

Well cast, written and acted plus enough man candy to make anyone's eye teeth hurt. Adapted from an Australian series of the same name this gritty, action packed drama centered around some good looking criminals and malcontents pulls you in from the jump. Great guest stars - special shout out to 80's, juvenile heartthrob, C. Thomas Howell, for his perfect portrayal of an entitled douche. Ellen Barkin is luminary and her 'boys' are the prefect mix of conflict and criminal. Great binge watching.

This is a really exciting new series that keeps the you captivated. The plot builds at a Mach 1, pace. The characters are sharing the same life, although their individual uniqueness makes it even more thrilling, it breaks the stereotypical crime family.
