Excellent film; frighteningly realistic!

This was really well-acted and the details were very realistic. I could see why they called it "Animals", as the couple was reduced to raw survival instinct as their addiction got progressively worse. They stopped caring about anything but getting the next fix, the pivotal point being when he was willing to put her in danger in order to get money for drugs and then she was willing to have him commit a violent crime to get the money for hers.

My ex who died from a heroin overdose was very similar and I ultimately had to leave him in order to save myself and my son. He pawned anything I had of the slightest value and it would have been nothing but a life of heartbreak if I had stayed. Addiction is a deep rabbit hole and those who are the most severely addicted will often take everyone around them down with them.

The couple in this movie had alot working against them with both of them being addicts and most likely had to separate in order to get clean.

Unexpectedly great film

Both David and Kim succeed in portraying the main characters as heroin addicts. Starting from the acting to the body movements and face expressions they were able to make the couple come alive from beginning to end. For me it was a very emotional, deep, and moving performance because I have seen people struggle with opiod addiction before and the scenes where they show withdrawal symptoms were quite accurate. I find these types of movies so romantic because even though they are addicted and struggling every single day to get their fix, they still stand by each other even in their worst times. Finding a partner who would 'ride or die' and stick around no matter what struggles are up ahead is what the majority of us would want and that is pretty much reflected throughout the whole movie. I recommend that you give it a shot, you won't regret it.

A great, honest film. We need more films like this. Raw and truthful storytelling with amazing and vulnerable performances. Looking forward to seeing all of the work that this entire Chicago team goes on to do! -KJ

Reminded me of a sort of Panic in Needles Park reboot. Pretty good. Accurate in a lot of its points with love and addiction.

David Dastmalchian is a star on the rise, and this movie was a fascinating glimpse into the world of drug use. A "small" movie with a big production feel. Definitely recommended.
