With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.
When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

I imagine this will be a book I listen to once a year. Do yourself a favor and give yourself yet another reason to love Anne.
This chatterbox with a vivid imagination fully expected to be given a home and long-denied love, but sour Marilla had to be persuaded by kindly Matthew to take her on trial. And what a trial Anne proved to be to these folks with no experience in child rearing! Learning to say prayers, to curb her wayward tongue when interacting with staid Rachel Lynde, meeting insult with insult to snobby girls in her school, growing violent re sneers about her hair from boys--especially smug Gilbert Bythe!
But even tough Marilla, who could be "mean as second skimmings," was eventually won over by Anne's irrepressible charm; the feisty spinster declared that despite the tantrums and trouble Anne got into (like walking the ridgepole after being dared to) she wouldn't trade Anne for a dozen boys! Readers over many decades agree: The ANNE stories easily charmed English-speaking folks on both sides of the Canadian border. So popular did ANNE OF GREEN GABLES prove that LMM continued the saga of Anne's adventures throughout many books--from her graduation from the Avonlea school, next from Queens, and then as a teacher herself.
When Anne was not getting into scrapes herself, of course she was busy reuniting lost loves or playing matchmaker to couples in need. The style is simple, direct and amusing, with quaint sayings and witty repartee so famous between children.
Anne dreams of becoming a writer, but won't let on that she fancies Gilbert in return. Fortunately in neighboring Diana Barry she does find the cherished girlfriend of her heart, with whom she shares her innermost thoughts. Lovely descriptions of the beauty of PEI fill the book--offering the Island cure to
entice fans of ANNE a century later to visit and see for themselves the places she grew to love. ANNE proves a gentle charmer for kids of all ages!
As much as I love Anne of Green Gables, a classic children's book doesn't really make much sense to me for the format. A small child might have issues with ripping the pages, and it's not really ideal for reading out loud to a kid.

Through the series we see Anne grow up and have children of her own and experience and cope with life's ups and downs. The author loves her characters and Prince Edward Island. The latter is almost a character in the books. Her descriptions of the island and its woods, flowers and fields are lyrical and poetic. There might be a bit too much of this for some modern readers but it is a price well worth paying for some beautiful stories and eloquent writing.
I loved it.

4 Stars.

Recomendo para quem quer começar a ler um livro em inglês e ainda está inseguro a respeito. É fácil de ler, letras grandes e vocabulário comum, do dia a dia.
A capa é magnífica. Muito bem feita, colorida e encantadora como é o livro.
Paguei muito barato e chegou rápido, sem nenhum problema.
Recomendo 100%

Anne Of Green Gables then remained unread and misremembered as tedious until I had a dream in which I was held hostage by terrorists in a bookshop whilst trying to buy a copy! After a dream like that - well I had to read it then, so I downloaded it for humour value.
It was not at all as I remembered it. I fell in love with it from the off. Unmarried brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert getting on in years decide they will take in a young boy from an orphanage to help on their farm, in the days before emails and phones and general legal enquiry, their message goes awry, and Matthew is met by a red haired eleven year old Anne Shirley.
Anne Shirley is no ordinary girl. With a flair for imagination, the dramatic and romantic notions about the world, she talks non stop and takes interest in everything around her.
Anne makes the book what it is, she is actually hilarious, over the top, and theatrical, her long speeches made me smile so much. She reminded me of a young me, and I hope that if I ever get to have a daughter she is a total Anne. Anne's funniest moments often come when by some unintentional mishap she gets into trouble, which like any teenager usually leads to her behaving as if the world had ended and refusing to leave her room.
Secondary characters are fun as well, Anne's touching relationship with Marilla that develops over time, and her understated secret love hidden beneath animosity for academic rival Gilbert Blythe.
Anne Of Green Gables was an utter joy to read, and there are several sequels yet to be read, though I doubt any of them will quite live up to this, I tore through this book, smiling constantly. From a book I once dismissed as being complicated and dull I'm now a massive, massive fan. 10/10
