From the Back Cover
A moving and insightful collection of quotes, memories, and images celebrating the life of Anthony Bourdain
When Anthony Bourdain died in June 2018, the outpouring of love from his fans around the world was momentous. Their tributes spoke to his legacy, confirming that the world is much smaller than we imagine and that people are more alike than they are different. As Tony once said, “If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. . . . Walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food.”
Anthony Bourdain Remembered brings together memories and anecdotes from fans reminiscing about Tony’s unique achievements and his enduring effect on their lives, and comments from chefs, journalists, filmmakers, musicians, and writers inspired by Tony, including Barack Obama, Eric Ripert, Jill Filipovic, Ken Burns, Questlove, and José Andrés, among many others.
These remembrances give us a glimpse of Tony’s widespread impact through his political and social commitments; his dedication to travel and eating well (and widely); and his love of the written word, along with his deep compassion, open-mindedness, and interest in lives different from his own.
Anthony Bourdain Remembered captures Tony’s inimitable spirit and passion in the words of his devoted fans and of some of his closest friends and colleagues.

That being said.....
So disappointed by this book. I wanted a biographic, even elegiac book that memorialized Tony - and gave insights to who he was - by those that knew him well.
Why in the world would I care what random people on the internet think about Tony? Because that is all the book is, cut and pasted remembrances from the CNN website, sprinkled in with short reactions from associates. And even those are sad as they seem to just be taken verbatim from social media posts - adding nothing new to Tony's legacy.
We know AB inspired millions. We don't need to spend $20 to be reminded.
As I said, I blame myself.
The one good thing about the book are the photos, which are fantastic. This would have been a much better book if it just had the photos with small blurbs giving the context of each.
I hope in the future somebody puts out a thoughtful, insightful bio of AB to fill the gap I thought this book would.
If you have a desire to connect on a superficial level with Tony's fans, this is your book. If, instead, you're hoping to connect more closely with the man himself, look elsewhere.
The photos and sentiments tell the story of a man many of us admired for what he overcame and for what he shared with us and taught us. I was pleasantly surprised to see sentiments from people of many walks of life, all around the world. I expected to see only celebrity sentiments and instead found a mix of people who loved him, expressing shared moments during the most simple to the most complex situations. Some shared how much his work inspired them to cook, travel, and appreciate diversity in new ways. Others spoke about what an incredible listener he was and the impact he had on them.
This is a beautiful book to own and to gift. I wish he was still here and free of pain.
