ArctiClean 60ml Kit 1 & 2 Thermal Grease Paste Compound Remover and Purifier. ArctiClean 1 Thermal Material Remover: ArctiClean 1 uses a proprietary combination of non-toxic biodegradable solvents to emulsify thermal greases or thermal pads. The citrus and soy based solvents in ArctiClean 1 match or exceed many hazardsous and volatile solvents such as fluorinated and chlorinated organic solvents, acetone, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol, and toluene. ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier: The cationic surfactants in ArctiClean 2 remove any residue left by the ArctiClean 1 leaving a pristine surface for the application of a new thermal interface material. It also incorporates advanced flash corrosion inhibitors that minimize the corrosion layer on copper and aluminum allowing for more intimate contact between the thermal interface material and the heatsink. Using ArctiClean 2 With Other Solvents: Most solvents and cleaning products leave residue on the CPU and heatsink that negatively affects the performance of any subsequently applied thermal interface material. ArctiClean 2 Thermal Surface Purifier removes the residue of citrus or petroleum based cleaners and inhibits flash corrosion on a copper or aluminum heatsink.

The second bottle contains a cleaning liquid that simply, but effectively, cleans the residue from the emulsifying liquid off of your components. Both have a pleasant smell, especially the citrus aroma that lingers from the first bottle.
I would not recommend letting either liquid touch your skin. They will leave your fingers very dry, if nothing else.
You just put a few drops of the solvent on the grease and let it sit for a minute. It completely dissovles the grease and lets you easily wipe it up. No smearing at all.
Once you've removed the existing paste just put a couple drops of the purifier on and wipe it clean. The purifier is almost like a thicker version of rubbing alchol. It dries quickly and doesn't run all over the place after being applied.
I'm disappointed I waited this long to try this stuff, it's defintely worth the money if you're going to be cleaning up thermal paste.
There was liquid metal on my cpu/gpu which when ordering I chose a standard thermal paste not liquid metal. That being said I wasn’t able to completely clean the liquid metal off. By the end it felt smooth but still had a stain. I’ll give it another go just in case I messed up.
The second bottle did good at giving my cpu/gpu a clean shine to them. Even considering the stained parts, still gave a nice shine.
After I clean my computer again I’ll update if I was able to get better results. I’ll try isopropyl as well in case that shows a difference in quality.
- 1st, use 99% isopropyl alcohol wipe(s) to remove most of the thermal paste.
- 2nd, apply kit 1 to remove any residual thermal paste that is left over. It's a tad bit oily and smells like citrus.
- 3rd, use another 99% isopropyl alcohol wipe to remove any leftover oils, from kit 1.
- 4th, take a very soft cloth, which it comes with, to remove any dried up isopropyl alcohol.
- 5th, apply kit 2, purifier, and spread it across the integrated heat spreader.
- 6th, wipe off kit 2, purifier, with a soft cloth.
- 7th, which is the final step, apply your new thermal paste, and you're good to go!
The thermal paste sticks to the integrated heat spreader, and it doesn't go anywhere. Amazing product!
If anyone is planning to do what I did and replace old paste on the CPU, and the CPU heatsink fins have any dirt or dust that can't be brushed or vacuumed away, I would highly recommend cleaning the heatsink fins with a cleaner safe for aluminum and a soft brush. I used a spray cleaner specifically made for A/C coil cleaning, as many household cleaners will cause aluminum to start to corrode after being exposed to them. I applied the cleaner to the heatsink, brushed the fins, then rinsed with water and let the heatsink dry before putting it back in the computer. I also wore an ESD control wrist strap and line clipped to the chassis when I worked on my PCs.
