Bright and colorful reworked version that lost charm or original cartoon.
Verified purchase
While this is a truly one of my favorites cartoons, this release has some issues. I used to like the original cartoon with old a bit dull colors. It has a great touch of time to it and made this cartoon very special. This release is a rework. The blue ray version of it is very sharp and clear, but.... it has new bright and vivid colors! The work is done well. But it lost the charm of original version. Petty. But that's what it is. I'm going to keep this release, but it's not gonna make to my "treasure" collection. Will continue looking for the original. Perhaps even used.
The DVD version is worthless. Colors are brightened, but image is not sharp. It is sort of mid way between original and reworked blue ray version. So it lost the charm of original, but did not get all the way to a modern blue ray. Not even sure why it was included. It looks more like an unfinished product.

Great Song Movie
Verified purchase
I remember this movie from my childhood. I bought this edition to replace my VHS video version. The picture quality reflects the time in which the movie was made. You buy this version to get the movie. The bonus features were scant, but I really enjoyed the reminiscings of the Sherman Bros. from Disney's vault. The bros were entertaining and provided some lovely info behind the scenes of this movie. I would have liked more like that. As for the story itself, it is a joyful ruckus of a story full of love, humor and music and a great way to introduce kids to the joy's of jazz. For the older folks, hearing the voices of Maurice Chevalier and Zsa Zsa Gabor might bring back good memories of a long ago age.

Positive Cat movie
Verified purchase
Most cats are played as bad villains in other cartoon movies and this is a good positive turn on them. Also, the old animation is appreciated. My 5 yo loved it! She had been asking me why cats were always the "mean" ones in the movies, and this movie popped in my mind, I'm glad we watched it.

By the way, we bought it off of Prime Video. So clearly, no problems with DVD's or any of those things that I see with the low starred comments.

Disappointed in the racist scene against Asians
Verified purchase
I purchased this film to take a break from studying. As a cat lover and proud cat mom of an orange tabby, I was enjoying the film until I saw the racist scene. Shun Gon the cat is given slanted eyes, buck teeth, and a bad accent. For some reason, they even decided to include chopsticks in a scene involving a piano. It's a stereotype that shouldn't be given as a subliminal to kids, offensive and racist. I'm an Asian American U.S. military veteran, and these types of films really are degrading and unfortunate considering my father, uncles and I served our country. I wish I could get a refund for my rental.

Disney Classic

I can remember watching this as a child. Now that I have a two and four year old I wanted to watch something other than a princess movie or Winnie the Pooh. My kids cannot stand any conflict in a movie (hence all the Winnie the Pooh) so I was not sure how this would go since I could not really remember it that well. They both really liked it! Maybe it was all the talking animals but whatever it was at least I got a night off from Elsa.

Got a USED instead of NEW 😡
Verified purchase
I don't know what's up with Amazon but lately the DVDs I order are coming out used posing as "new." I own Blue-Ray cases, so I know how they look when bought new. This case felt compressed, which happens when you squeeze them after a while. The edges were chipped off. When I opened it, it wasn't stiff like a new case. You could open it wide as if it's been opened multiple times. The front cover has ripples. The DVDs themselves had ring marks. All signs of being used!

My Dog Loved It
Verified purchase
I got sentimental and decided to buy this movie since my grandma took my younger sister and I to see it in the olden days when it first came out in theaters. I still loved it! Such a sweet story, and the characters are engaging and charming.

However, the most important part of this movie is that there were so many animated animals in it that one of my dogs watched almost the entire movie with me, fully engrossed in it from the start to about 2/3 of the way through. But, alas, she got distracted by the real cats in the house and left me to finish it by myself.

I'd buy it again for that experience alone.

The best Disney Movie Ever
Verified purchase
This is one of my and my kids favorite Disney movies. We used to watch it all the time when they were growing up. When I got rid of all the VHS tapes I didn't plan on how to replace them so a lot of the movies we watched we haven't been able to. I am slowly building up our digital library, and when I came across this for a rental fee of $1, I couldn't pass it up. Truly a favorite in our house. I am now going to have to buy it.

Thanks Amazon for offering select movies for $1 this past March, please make this a permanent thing.
