Must watch, totally underrated!

We don't have cable in our bedroom and only have an apple tv, which we were disappointed after buying since there isn't much use for it if you dont have netflix or hulu. Amazon prime streams perfectly, but I have a hard time finding things on prime that I haven't already watched or that interest me. I was really looking for a show that I could watch for 25-40 minutes just before bed and shut it off. Something funny, but mindless to rest and not keep my up thinking about. I have heard friends talk about Arrested Development, but it never really interested me and I just thought that humor would be too dry for my taste when watching the commercials or reading about. I had never watched this until one night when I found myself with nothing to watch and really just wanting to lay in my bed, but it was too early to go to sleep. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I laughed mercilessly throughout the entire first season and I will continue to do so. Jason Bateman is hilarious as the "straight man." It seems it was pretty poorly promoted during its on-air run, because it never looked very funny to me. An added bonus is that my boyfriend and I are both into it, which doesn't happen often.

Some of the most hilarious TV writing ever!
Verified purchase
Nearly every TV sitcom gets something wrong- either the timing is awkward, the writing is weak, the characters aren't well developed, or the absurdity is overplayed- and all of them get tired after the first couple seasons as the writers run out of the ideas which originally made the show a success. NOT Arrested Development. First of all, the rock star of the show is Jeffrey Tambor as the family's ridiculous patriarch. His comedic brilliance lies in being to be able to play characters that are so completely absurd and look like he takes himself seriously the whole time. Combined with Tony Hale (also of Veep)'s awesome face acting and Jason Bateman's ability to come off as the thoughtful hero in the midst of total dysfunction, the cast is strong all around and every actor has their timing right on the money so the delivery always works. Top that off with brilliant writing and this is a laugh-out-loud show from episode to episode. I am sorry to see it end when it did.

Great Character Development = Engaging Comedy
Verified purchase
I generally do not like situation comedies. However, I have really enjoyed watching Arrested Development. I think what sets it apart from the run of the mill sitcom is the quirky storyline, the quality actors, and that the characters are very well developed. As I watched the series I began to know what makes each character tick, and that "inside" knowledge leads to trying to predict their actions and reactions to various situations. This makes the show engaging and fun to watch. Although the storylines and characters of the two shows are entirely different, the experience of becoming acquainted with the "Arrested Development" storyline and characters reminds me of my experience of falling in love with the "Seinfeld" show and its characters.

Watch this series, you won't regret it

I'm am loving this quirky, dysfunctional, series. The Bluth family is making me laugh out loud. Justin Bateman, as Michael Bluth, is wonderful as the middle son who is trying to keep his sub-normal family together in the mist of crisis...one after another crisis. Most of these crises deal with a once rich family and their lack of dealing with having to cut back on their frivolous spending habits. In the mean time poor Michael is being driven mad by them all. Watch it, you won't regret it.

Show Hits One Out of the Field!!!

This has to be one of the funniest series I've EVER seen! The comedy is as great in Season 2 as it was in Season 1. I'm prepared to buy Season 4 since it isn't available in Amazon Prime yet. I love all the characters and everything about the show. I also like the fact that it only ran 4 seasons. I think no series, no matter how great it is, has a peak and then usually drops off in its quality of content. I'm so happy I decided to watch the show mainly because Jason Bateman is one of my favorite comedic actors. The other actors provide perfect accompaniment to Bateman's character, providing a top-notch comedy.

If you enjoy comedy you will love this show, even the second time around it's good.

This is a great show. The inside joke comedy always has you excited to see whats next. The pilot show does a wounderful job of explaining what the story line is and who the characters are. Each episode is unique yet still on track with the story. Some of the episodes I have watched twice and found them just as funny the second time, catching small things I missed the first time. I would recomend this show to anyone who enjoys comedy and laughter.

I saw only 1 episode years ago and mentioned it to my friend. He bought the DVD series and loved them. I've never watched any other episode until last week. Each episode is just so funny. I love tthis sitcom and I also like Jason Batmen (that helps!) I will continue watching the rest of the episodes. I recommend this for anyone who needs a little bit of laughter on a bad day 😁

One of the greatest comedies ever written for television.

This is in my opinion one of the highest quality shows ever written. It's funny to the point I'm left wondering how it's possible for jokes to be written in so deeply from the first to last episode. The comedy is so high brow and often deeply woven into the story that I enjoyed it more the second time than the first and I already loved it. Some of the most memorable characters ever. Must watch.
