I think I knew when I requested this book that it was written for children. That said, it really is a tear jerker with so many sad things happening throughout the book. I enjoyed that the author wrote the book from a dog’s perspective, and I felt he did that very well. I know the cover of the book shows a Rhodesian Ridgeback, but the story is not based on the breed and if you know the breed, you can tell that. That said, they are a fiercely loyal breed and the personality did fit with a ridgeback. I don’t know if young people would like reading this as it does really make you cry throughout the book, but there is laughter and humor, but again, so much is very sad. The ending is both sad but satisfying, depending on your beliefs. I found it hard to put down, even as an adult, and those that do not want to believe how much animal abuse exists should take their heads out of the ground. It is rampant unfortunately, and really a shame more people don’t reach out to help. I am happy to live in a home with no restrictions on size or quantity of pets!
