About the author

Recovering theoretical physicist, professional geek, newbie sci fi novelist, USA Today Best-Seller, and die hard Doctor Who fan.
Though she is originally from England, she is mostly what her friends call a “digital nomad”, hanging in whichever country calls to her… as long as it has good wifi, and coffee.

The story kinds of loses its way for me somewhere in the middle. This book is not going to be about what you think it is. Some of the character building is unrealistic. A good example is Molly's mother. There is no way she does what she does to Molly with Molly still working with her. Or maybe that's just me, I don't know. This is my review after all. It just seems people do bad things and it's quickly glossed over so the story can continue.
I read the entire 12 book series and honestly couldn't put it down for long. There were times when I got frustrated with the story, but I kept coming back. Book 12 was the hardest to read. I think I got invested in enough of the characters that I wanted to at least see it through. So some of the character development was good. The only flaw with that was the constant reference to all the good guys being so morally superior to everyone else. Goody two shoes good and talking about it being the way they were book after book. That got a bit old and unrealistic. I don't believe you can get 50 people together and all of them be morally outstanding people. That's for the good-guy half of the story.
The bad guys are not too bad and fairly easily overcome. I was fine with that because I hate stories where the bad guy is unstoppable and the good guys unrealistically barely win. I'm sure I'm in the minority there.
In case you are wondering, this story is not about anyone ascending.
Also, I'm not sure why you would rave about a hanger that has so many ships available to you when only one of them is going to get used as a transport. So many things that happen are drawn out way too long and then fizzle out as if part of the story is missing. I kept getting to the end of a paragraph thinking "That's it?".
I found the book entertaining, but two repeated grammatical errors, and some wrong words were distracting. The science being off didn't help. Author is enamored over the word "like", and uses it on almost every page. Problem being that it was never used as like this or like that. It was almost always used as like it is this or like it is that. The other problem was the frequent use of gerunds. Since it is a noun, and not a verb, it takes the possessive.
I usually try to read author notes, but partly because it was elsewhere, and partly because it was filled with giggles personal to the authors, but with little content, I stopped reading after chapter four.
I hope this review puts the reader into the picture so they can decide on their own whether this is their type of reading. I'm a little turned off on the Kutherian universe myself.

Compliments - I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and wanted to see and hear more of them. I think some of the writing was "episodal" like writing outlines for a TV series like Firefly. The writer could have kept this going for a long time.
Loved the way that the perspectives shifted from future sci fi to backward planet sci fi to super advanced alien etc. The ending was pulled off very well and sets up another round nicely.
Issues - I think there were some gaps or an episode missing. They discovered a girl with powers (Anne) and Giles went off with her stowed away. Later there were lots of references to the adventure that happened on that trip and the writer assumes we have read that episode but it was missing. The whole interaction with Anne was unfulfilled.
I think there was some repetition. Most importantly I felt that some great opportunities were a bit lost. The shifting powers and the on board AI were not developed early on and there were gaps in this theme. She went from being suspected of mind control to have worked on making it focussed and this development was not in the series.
All in all a fun read and I could see this being a series

This based around a girl who is a genius but immature and poor social skills (probably on Autistic spectrum). As the series progresses she matures as she manages a team which increases in number. Initially taking on her own projects then taking on Federation tasks.
There’s an interesting end to the series and I hope we see her later on in the main Kurtherian Gambit Series.

When it comes down to the nitty gritty of Sci Fi or Fantasy it matters not that it is beyond reasonable belief. Our, 'readers ' concern is that we can identify with the Authors imagined themes, characters and story line and get lost for a while in a totally fictional world.
And that depends how the characters are created, the plot hatched and you are so engrossed in the story that you must go on. That all depends on the writing abilities of the Authors, and Leigh and Michael have got those abilities in abundance.
Excellent story highly recommended,, where's the next. Well done.
