ASP is the codename for one of the Shadow operatives for Guardian. He's a specialist and one of the best but he is carrying a level of guilt for his past that he can't shake. He gets his opportunity to right a horrible wrong but things go wonky and he ends up at the mercy of Lyric. They'll have to work together to survive and trust the feelings that they have for each other are forged into an unshakeable bond. The twists in this book are a portent of stories to come and, I for one, can not wait!!!
We find out what events caused Asp to be the way he is and how he made it to Guardian as a shadow. Due to this, we understand what pushes him to take the current assignment to take out a specific target. While he manages to get his target, it bring about an entire different set of events that almost take him out.
This is where we meet Lyric and her family. As Asp is wounded, Lyric’s grandfather starts helping him heal and when Lyric comes looking for dear ole grandpa, she ends up staying to help with Asp. She tends to his wounds and bring him back from the brink; it’s touch as go for a bit, but he recovers.
As time goes on, we find out there are additional people from Asp past that he finds out he was lied to about as well as who he can trust and can’t. With the help of his “friends” he get’s Lyric out of harms way but it comes at a high costs via the lives losts. Once’s she’s back in the US at the compound, Asp goes to town on the people causing all the issues in the region and starts to take them out.
We get a healthy dose of all the gang from “Kings of Guardian” series as well as more insight into other shadows in this story as well as a happy ending for Lyric and Asp. I really love what Moriah does in the end to one of the bad guys, totally awesome!!!!
Highly recommend this book to any and all but especially if you’ve read any of the King’s of Guarding series or the first book in the Shadow World series. Asp makes such a delightful character and his love of food makes his call signs way to funny (thanks Kris!!!).
Another great book from Kris to add to the collection – thanks Kris, please keep them coming!
Lyric Gadson is living on a small farm in Columbia with her father and grandfather. Her life used to be in Jacksonville Florida until she became a rebellious teen and her parents whisked her to Columbia and the remote banana farm owned by her grandfather in order to save her from the wild child she was becoming. She is grown up now and responsible. She has had to be after most of her family on her mom's side has passed away from one tragedy or another, including her own mother.
Her grandfather is late in returning from his annual pilgrimage to the family's shrine, she sets out to find him but she finds more than she bargained for. Her grandfather found Asp is trying to nurse him back to health. He leaves Lyric there to tend to the man and his wounds. It won't be easy but she is up to the task. She saves his life and he, in turn, saves hers. As he recovers things go sideways and an even bigger plot is uncovered.
Lyric is a strong woman who keeps up with Asp every step of the way. She is beautiful in all ways that matter. Asp is drawn to her from the beginning but he believes he isn't right for her, he kills people for a living. He has demons and he has killed people and he doesn't want to taint Lyric with his professional life. What he uncovers in Columbia will shock Guardian and turn it on its ear.
This is the second book in the series and I liked it. Ms. Michaels tells a wonderful story and pulls the reader in so that it is hard to put the book down.
I liked Asp a/k/a/ Isaac and thought he was a great guy. My heart hurt for the pain he felt after he was used by his CIA handler to kill someone who should not have been killed. When the opportunity came to go after that man, I understood completely why Isaac wanted to be the man to complete the mission. He was successful, but he was shot in the process. It was only a matter of time before he was found and killed.
Lyric lived with her grandfather on his banana farm in the mountains of Columbia. Her grandfather found Isaac when he was injured, and Lyric took care of him. Feelings developed, but Isaac tried pushing her away afraid his world would cause Lyric harm.
Isaac and Lyric were great characters and I liked them together as a couple. I admired how Lyric accepted Isaac’s job and loved him regardless.
I’m enjoying the new shadow series and look forward to reading Lycos’ book next.

Fierce loyal warriors that you can't help but fall for. If you liked the TV series Scandal or Black Book then you'll love these. The author has kept me riveted and this story is going all the way to the TOP, Yep Some one at the height of power is driving this and I wanna see them locked up good and tight so Cmon Guardian and The Shadow Operators " Make. Them. Pay." Loved it
There are a couple of potential triggers relating to physical violence
There are a few editorial errors that really irritated, such as missing words, but definitely not enough to kill the book. Given the authors writing ability the errors are surprising and speak of lazy editing. If I had taken the time and effort to construct such a delicious book I would be deeply concerned about the validity of the editing team employed. All that aside, it really is only a handful of errors and should not deter anyone from purchasing the book.
There are some sex scenes and plenty of swearing. There are graphic descriptions of violence, but take that in the context it's meant. The Shadow operators are ex military and highly skilled and the plotline is about more than the violence.
The characterisation is outstanding both lead and supporting characters, as ever from Kris Michaels.
The storyline is so well crafted you find yourself caring about the characters and hoping for the outcome you want to read.
I can't recommend the series highly enough but suggest that you read the series from the beginning to obtain the best reading experience.
The details and strategies employed by the military (in this case the snipers) are amazing and completing the task is only half the job they need to get away as well. After the shot is fired the "hunter becomes the prey".
The only thing I was not sure about was hot the relationship between Asp and Lyric started, but I can see and feel how it developed, strength begets strength, and as tough as Asp is in this relationship he is in second place, Lyric is the boss. She delivered some of the best verbal beat-downs in any book. She did not taken any crap or pity she took what she wanted. However Asp was the star of this story.
I just do not understand how each book seem to be even better then the last, and the set up was to the next story was just as intriguing. I can't wait for the next book be it King or Shadow.
Again this book has everything you could wish for good beefcake and a beautiful woman that's got attitude.
But the shooter is still out there looking for Asp.
Again Kris Michaels pulls you into the lives of these people and makes you feel part of the book.
