I’m a lifetime Northeasterner, and I currently live in New York City, where I write from my apartment…and continue to fill small notebooks with ideas for future books. I've been reading science fiction and fantasy for just about as long as I've been reading, so, of course, when I started to write, that’s where I ended up. It’s been a great ride so far!

My tastes as a reader are fairly varied and eclectic, but I'd say my favorites are military and dystopian science fiction, space opera, alternate history, and epic fantasy, usually a little bit gritty. I also read a lot of non-fiction, mostly history. I write a lot of science fiction with military themes, but also other SF and some fantasy as well. I like complex characters and lots of backstory and action. Honestly, I think world-building is the heart of science fiction and fantasy, and since that is what I've always been drawn to as a reader, that is what I write.

Among other things, I write the bestselling Crimson Worlds series and the Far Stars series published by Harper Voyager.

I've been an investor and real estate developer for a long time (mostly retired from it now), a fiction author more recently. When I'm not writing, I enjoy traveling, running, hiking, reading. I love hearing from readers and always answer emails. I think you stop growing as a writer if you stop listening to those who read your books.

I wish that they had 1/2 star ratings because I really think this is a 4.5 star book. The book is a bit wordy and some scenes are overly worked. One such episode is when Jake Stockton doesn't want to return home due to guilt for teaching the Highborn interceptor forces how to fight. He's eventually talked into going back (surprise), but it takes pages to do so. There are more references by the Highborn to "a primary front", and hints of another Empire, and even a reference to Earth. Tyler's wife Andi continues her search for the weapon that defeated the Highborn by the Imperials. It appears to be a super flu that has a 100% fatality rate. No one seems to be asking why are there still Highborn around if the virus is so effective. All in all a great story, but I think it should be concluded soon. He could easily do another series in the same universe with new characters.

I have enjoyed the 'Blood on the Stars' series. I enjoyed this one as well. It is written to draw me in to the world of Tyler and Andi along with the other people of the Rim. The multiple storylines help keep the story going. However the typing errors were the worst I've seen in any of Jay Allen's books that I've read. Not sure if he is trying to put books out faster or if the proof readers are overwhelmed. It is really bad when the characters names are mistakenly exchanged. This forces the reader to backtrack to clear the confusion. Hopefully, this book can be proofed again and a revision released.

Love the whole series and always look forward to the next chapter. My only issue is I have a hard time kerping track all Jay's books and wonder if the people living on the rim are desendents of Garrett and the people trapped behind the bombed gate. I also wonder if the people left on earth all hundreds of thousand of years ago have managed to evade the Empire all this time and if so how things are going back "home". Will the rim dwellers and the hegemony ever meet their ancestors. I can see this series going on forever. Plus, what was the cataclysm acually, besides the near total collapse of human society. Did it happen when the Empire found the humans that escaped or was it something else or are the 2 stories totally unrelated?

This is an addictive space opera that caught me in its net and I just could not put down book after book;-Somewhat to my own puzzlement as I’m not normally that interested in military tactics and strategy or the huge amount of fighting details provided within each battle. But there is just enough of a storyline and intrigue in between each battle to make this really compelling reading. I would not have minded if the author had given more weight to the storyline, mystery and intrigue instead of quite so much emphasis on the fighting itself. However it hasn’t stopped me from thoroughly enjoying the series.
My greatest difficulty right now is sitting waiting for the next two books to come out. I hope they arrive soon! And to the author - well done for truly imaginative work. A real pleasure to read
