stupendous prequel - great military thriller

I’ve read all of Currie’s novels involving Eric Weston ,and this prequel fills in many of the historical gaps nicely. Currie has an inherently excellent grasp of military tactics and weave an engrossing tale of the beginning of the war that led us to space and the adventures of the Odysseus and the Archangels.

Back story for his Archangel series. A lot of combat action. As a Canadian, Currie might not realize how unlikely it would be for a US Marine major to command a US capital ship, but I suppose that was to allow the major to be in command of the forces defending Iwo Jima against the Bloc. Perhaps in homage to Major Deveraux on Wake Island in WW2. He also didn't seem to be able to decide if the Sig assault rifles were 6.4 mm or 6.8 mm. The idea that several pieces of really advanced technology could be integrated into an F22 in a couple of weeks defies belief. As much as it would be needed to save the Western world, Murphy would ensure it just couldn't happen.

Fantastic book by Mr. Currie. That said, there really needs to be more proofreading before this goes out. Spelling errors are not such a big deal but occasionally the grammar just Knocks you right out of the story as you try to figure out what was just said.

The story of Holy Ground has Iwo Jima as the centerpiece for WW3, The Eastern Block (China) against the West. Wonderful because Evan does a good job of adding to the Odyssey universe, hard because in it the US is not ready for a major military event. It was difficult to read about the losses the US, Japan, and other nations took, mostly due to really poor intelligence gathering by the Western Nations. The Block never should have been able to pull off what they did.

Now to folks who have complained about editing and proofreading, just give me a break. Are there some issues, yeah there are, and if you don't read over them, much like you would the Meme you'll find on Facebook with the spelling of the words all wrong. You know the one, where yer a freaking genius if you can read this! Give me a break, the editing was just fine. Sheesh

I am so disappointed to find this is the only novel covering the legendary Archangels and Weston's actions in the war.
Oh and the typos, they really drag you out of the action, is proofreading a lost art?
Really, if i bought this as a hard copy, I'd post it back to the publishers with inadequate postage, taped to a brick.
One star lost because of them.

The combat description was very gripping and I was reading fast to keep up with it ;-) I'm hoping that Currie gives an earlier book on Weston's special ops where he steals the counter mass technology and I can't wait for the sequel to Holy Ground. Hopefully we'll see the transition to spacefaring.
