Five years ago, an innocent man began a life sentence for murdering his own son. Today he found out his son is still alive.
David Burroughs was once a devoted father to his three-year-old son Matthew, living a dream life just a short drive away from the working-class suburb where he and his wife, Cheryl, first fell in love—until one fateful night when David woke suddenly to discover Matthew had been murdered while David was asleep just down the hall.
Half a decade later, David’s been wrongly accused and convicted of the murder, left to serve out his time in a maximum-security prison—a fate which, grieving and wracked with guilt, David didn’t have the will to fight. The world has moved on without him. Then Cheryl’s younger sister, Rachel, makes a surprise appearance during visiting hours bearing a strange photograph. It’s a vacation shot of a bustling amusement park a friend shared with her, and in the background, just barely in frame, is a boy bearing an eerie resemblance to David’s son. Even though it can’t be, David just knows: Matthew is still alive.
David plans a harrowing escape, determined to achieve the impossible–save his son, clear his own name, and discover the real story of what happened. But with his life on the line and the FBI following his every move, can David evade capture long enough to reveal the shocking truth?

I have read most of Harlan Coben's books, except for the Bolitar series because I'm not a sports fan.
When you begin "I Will Find You", you'd best buckle up! And forget the roller-coaster ride; that's too tame to describe the speed with which Coben grabs you from page one.
We meet the main character, David Burroughs, during his fifth year in prison. We feel his pain, anger, and frustration and then cheer him on as he plots his escape. I won't go into great detail lest I include spoilers. I immediately sympathized with David, despite the horrendous nature of his crime. The characters comprising his support system become very real early on in the story and the FBI agents chasing him extremely annoying!
This book is tight with every word advancing the plot and, in typical Coben fashion, there are twists and turns aplenty. The ending was satisfying with all my questions answered. Thank goodness Coben doesn't subscribe to the current madness so many authors seem to embrace of feeling he must leave us wanting more. Translation: "You must buy my next book if you want to know what happens next."
There are a few grammatical errors in "I Will Find You", which surprised me because I have never before noticed any in Coben's books. There weren't enough to be distracting, but enough to cause a little blip in my consciousness as a I read.
If you enjoy adventure thrillers, you will love "I Will Find You".
He still has the good plots with believable strange plots, but the character development is now much more realistic. I know Coben is a talented writer and I look forward to reading more of his novels. I hope he continues to take more literary risks in his writings.
your beloved son to death. ?
How would like to be so bereft of hope in prison that you refuse to
even meet with the tiny handful of people who still cared for you.
How would you like to be an object of attempted murder in
prison as a result of the long tail of a terrible scheme of kidnapping
and unjust treatment.
The answers to these questions are both intriguing and awful.
But they represent a great read from a true fiction master -
Harlan Coben
Fred Dimond
For me, I could not put this book down. It’s one of those rare books where you are compelled to finish the book, but hate to see it end! It’s just that good! Obviously, I highly recommend it.
David Burroughs is accused and convicted of killing his three year old son. While in prison he learns the son might still be alive, a scenario which makes no sense as the son's body was found in his bed, beaten to death. In order to find out if that is true David must find a way to get out of prison and find his son.
The story is compelling and moves swiftly with lots of suspense and things that keep the reader guessing. If there is any flaw, there are parts of the plot which sound more like a soap opera rather than a murder mystery. That didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book. I recommend this to all who enjoy a good mystery/thriller.

True to form, Coben delivers another tale of an ordinary person finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances. Five years ago, David’s son was found murdered in his bed, beaten to a pulp with a baseball bat. Every shred of evidence of this brutal murder points to David, and he is put behind bars. But now, his former sister-in-law, Rachel, visits him and shows him a photograph with a boy in the background who looks remarkably like David’s son. Is Matthew still alive? The only way David can find out the truth is to escape prison, so he can save his son and clear his name. However, there are some who would prefer the truth about that devastating night remains hidden.
But are Rachel’s motives what they seem to be? She too has lost a lot. Once a promising investigative reporter, she went a few steps too far and ruined her career in the process. Is she using this moment as an opportunity to revive her career, or does she genuinely believe Matthew is still out there somewhere?
Far-fetched? Somewhat. Over the top? Maybe. Requires suspension of disbelief? Totally. Did I care? Not one jot! I often do mind, but Harlan Coben is one of very few authors who can get away with all of that. Maybe that’s because his characters are always so complex and multi-layered. But also, in a lot of cases, entirely relatable. It’s remarkably easy to imagine being in David’s position, stuck behind bars for something he knows he didn’t do. Yet not finding a morsel of fighting spirit because nothing will change the fact that his son is dead, and without his little boy life doesn’t matter anymore. That little sliver of hope in the shape of the photograph he is shown fires him up entirely, just like with any other parent.
On the other side of the spectrum are those with money. Lots of money. Too much money? You know, the ones who barely know what to do with it. The ones who seem to think having money means you can get away with anything. The ones who use money to cover up things they shouldn’t be covering up. Uh huh, yeah, those ones.
Obviously, as the reader, you’re rooting for David all the way. ‘I Will Find You‘ is so action-packed it almost feels as if you’re right there with David, in the thick of things, fighting for justice. There didn’t seem to be any moment where you could just catch your breath for a minute. It’s all systems go from start to finish and I loved every minute of it. A thrilling and twisty rollercoaster ride, massively addictive and I might even go as far as to say I think this might just be Harlan Coben’s best book to date. I can’t wait for his next one!
