Amos Decker is a mountain of a man - 6’5” and at one
time close to 300 lbs. Altho he has slimmed down a bit
he is truly imposing. His pro football career was brief
and ended dramatically. Due to a shocking collision on the field
Amos acquired a perfect memory - hyperthymesia - and some other
unusual abilities including synesthesia - pairing
developments with colors - when he sees electric blue
he senses the presence of dead bodies.
These attributes help to make him an uncanny investigator.
But he is the opposite of a smooth operator which the FBI
likes. Amos dresses in a casual almost slovenly way. He
is abrupt and disrespectful of authority. He doesn’t care
at all whether he fits in and the FBI, to whom he is a consultant,
would like to fire him. But how do you fire the investigator
with the highest solve rate?
In this book Amos teams up with a new unlikely partner. A small
black woman who is just as feisty as he is. Even though
he dreads a new partner, they fit together and bring about
a great solve. The FBI would like to get rid of both of them
but can’t - for now.
At the end of book Amos gets disturbing news about
his mental state from the group that monitors his
condition. It is not definitive, but it is disturbing. Couple
that with Amos’s “ one foot on a banana peel “ career
and the reader has to wonder what comes next for him.
We have to wait for David Baldacci to let us know.

Favorite detective series!
Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2022
Detective series is hands down one of my favorite mystery/thriller sub-genres. When I picked up Memory Man at the library a few years ago and "met" Amos Decker I was instantly hooked on the series. Fun facts about Decker:🔎 Due to sports head injury he is unable to forget anything🔎 He is a police detective who now does joint duty with the FBI🔎 He solved every single case he worked on🔎 He comes from a tragic pastSeven books later, I'm still obsessed with the series. In the latest installment, Decker gets a new partner, Frederica White. It takes time for them to warm up to each other, but they make a great team solving the latest series of murders. A judge and her bodyguard are murdered in the same house. But Decker suspects the murders were committed not by one, but two killers?! As investigators go down the killers' trail, they begin losing key witnesses. Decker also discovers, there is a plan to let him go off the force if he loses this case. No pressure, right?!Great mystery, kept me guessing till the end who the killers were. There were a few usual suspects and it made it so much more exciting to follow the trail. No huge surprise at the end, but the story was so good, with so many leads, that I just kept turning the pages. Baldacci-style chapters are bite-size and often end in a mini-cliffhanger. Impossible to put down! 4.5/5 ⭐ from me.

I love a thriller that has substance, clues and twists. This book had all of that and more. I hope Amos and Freddie continue to be partners in other books. This series has evolved and gotten better. This book could be read without reading the prior books but I would start @ book 1. They really are so good

Amos Decker continues navigating his complicated life of solitude, with very few close friends that he has let in. This chapter starts with his friends having moved on in one way or another and Decker being paired with a new and very different FBI partner as he receives the results of his latest physical exam. He has many challenges to face and a peculiar set of murders he and his partner are assigned to solve in Florida. Solving the crimes leads them down one blind alley after another, revealing other mysteries, which may or may not pertain to the case at hand.
Couldn’t put it down…the story touches on some historical moments, intrigue, people who aren’t what they seem and some who are much more than what they seem.
Well done, David Baldacci!

I loved this book from beginning to end. I'm wild about Amos Decker and the unpredictable ride he takes you on. A crazy roller coaster of ups and downs, and a few sideways slams thrown in for good measure! This latest in the series is my favorite, which says a lot, because against the odds, Decker is evolving emotionally, though I always thought he was perfect just the way he was 😉! As an aside to the author, since this book was set in Florida, there was, uncharacteristically almost no rain!! Hallelujah!!
I can't recommend this book highly enough! I don't know what I'll do now without Decker in my life, but if I'm lucky, I'll fall in love with another Baldacci hero.

These Amos Decker stories always take some time to come together. Baldacci must fight the urge to give things away too quickly. Amos Decker’s unusual memory quirks provide a convenient way for him to do that.
I suspect we haven’t seen the last of Frederick White either. She is a good counterpoint to Decker and has her own unique quirks. David Baldacci is showing his range of storytelling and character development in his latest series of books.
That’s what writers who keep growing and developing do. I hope he keeps it up! This one also revealed more of Amos Decker’s soft side—a good and welcome touch.

Another exceptional read by Baldacci. Amos Decker at his best & his worst in all phases of life, on & off the case. Holds your attention from start to finish. And his new partner fits in very, very well. Looking forward to the two of them in the next novel.

Always a good read. You know that you are in for a long journey that you will enjoy until the last page . The memory man drives himself nuts and us readers too but is fun. Guess I will start a new one soon after I savor this one.

Another great read. I liked the introduction of a new character and her role in their relationship. Interesting person with talents that make her a good fit with Amos.

Another excellent Memory Man novel

Amos Decker is a very unusual protagonist for a book series. He’s complex, irritable, short-tempered and no respecter of authority, but he solves case using his remarkable memory. This was a very complex story with lots of plot twists and a few red herrings. Very satisfying, and, as always, brilliantly written.

I have read all of DB’s books and bought in to all his various characters However although I have enjoyed Amos as a character in the previous books I found that in this something was missing. There was not the usual spark and it all felt rather flat like Amos was just going through the motions and his heart was not in it.

Decker is getting older, he doesn't like it. Suggestions that his powers may be changing also worry him. Old friends and partners have retired or moved on . He also has a new partner on a very curious case. Keeps moving and twisted every one is such a clear contender that you wonder how you got it so wrong!!!!!!

Not my favourite but wouldn't have missed it.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on December 8, 2022
Slow for me at the beginning but developed really well. Live the characters and couldn't guess the ending but I've read better from David. However I would still read it over of I hadn't already. Roll on the next from my favourite author ever.
