Was Noor Too Short or Too Long

I liked the ideas presented in the book but I can’t decide if this would have been stronger as a short story or full length novel. If the pacing sped up and the ideas more concise, it would have been a great 100 page novella. On the other hand I would have loved much more detail about AO’s backstory with her parents, brother and a lot more detail on why Ultimate Corp was a real, threat. While the ideas were interesting they didn’t feel “fleshed out” for a lack of better term and to make a bad pun. It ended up feeling both too long and too short and I was a bit disappointed in the story overall.

Noor felt to me like the foundation for a much grander story with a rich world to explore. However this slice of it felt rushed and disjointed with both too much backstory and also somehow not enough to bring together a story that flows and makes sense.

I enjoyed the writing style and the pacing, the descriptions of this world were vivid, however ultimately this book left me wanting.

This novel is incoherent like a nightmare thrashing meaninglessly this way and that way. When I was about halfway through the book I realized that it was no good, but I continued reading it, not because I expected it would improve, but because I was so amazed about how bad it was that I wanted to be able to marvel at the whole wretched thing.

Her writing style is as engaging as ever and the flow of the story saw me read this novel in 2 days, which is fast for me and indicative of an extremely well written, interesting novel. I definitely recommend Noor to anyone who is a fan of the author, science fiction or just wants to read a book by a talented author. Five stars deserved!
