When Sadie is at the coffee shop trying to get the croissant that she "has" to have before her pitch to a new client (or else - you know how superstition works), she's dismayed to find there aren't any left. Out of nowhere, a croissant shows up in front of her. Eric, another engineer who works at a rival firm also located in her building, offers the last one to her, silently, and leaves. Sadies runs after him to say thank you to the man she privately calls "Corporate Thor" and they strike up a conversation. They realize that they have a lot in common, starting with an immense love for "real" football. After a wonderful dinner and a night of monumentally good sex, Sadie finds out that he is actually one of the partners in the rival firm and responsible for her losing the pitch, using info he supposedly gathered during their time together. Feeling betrayed, she never answers the numerous texts and calls coming from Eric. She manages to avoid him for three weeks until Fate intervenes and locks them together in an elevator late on a Friday night. With nowhere to go and nothing to do, they will have to talk.

Told from Sadie's POV in first person, this is a cute novella. Sadie is quirky and funny with her gazillion superstitions and love of football. All we know of Eric is through Sadie's eyes, so we first swoon, then hate, then swoon again until they reach their HEA.

Cute story, short audiobook. Great for when you want something light and quick.

Narration: solo narration by Meg Sylva (new to me) who does a great job. This story is out in audio first. The e-book comes out in June '22.

Sadie wouldn’t say she’s superstitious she’s just a little stitious. So when she goes to get her disgusting but lucky croissant before her big pitch meeting and the last one is sold out she is already spiraling when a handsome stranger offers her his. She chases him down to thank him and it turns out they have a ton in common. They both like football, he works for a rival building company in the same building and they both are instantly attracted to the other.

Their meet-cute leads to a hot night together and Sadie is thinking her luck may be turning around in the romance department as well as in her professional life when she nails her presentation. Too bad Erik turns out to be less Prince Charming and more prince of betrayal and corporate espionage….or so Sadie thinks. When they get trapped in an elevator sparks fly again and Sadie finds out what really happened the day everything went south. Maybe that lucky croissant was right to bring him to her after all.

This is the second novella by following the same friend group of three woman finally embarking on their STEM careers after grad school. You do not need to read/listen in order. This one has two mildly polarizing tropes- instalove and miscommunication. If those aren’t your jam you won’t enjoy this novella. I, however, am totally here for it especially when we find out what Erik really did behind the scenes *cue total swooning* I am loving how binge-able these novellas are while still containing fleshed out characters and plot lines. This one was a little steamier than the first one as well!

My only hang up is I didn’t love the narrator’s attempt at giving Erik an accent. I didn’t mind her voicing Sadie but Erik’s voice did not do it for me. I may recommend you read this one when the ebook comes out if you’re at all picky about narrators. But you can also listen to a sample first to see if it’s right for you. However you want to enjoy this one it’s a good short and steamy read!

This trio of friends is so relatable and lovable! I love each and every one of their quirks and reading about them navigating their relationships while completing groundbreaking work in their respective STEM fields.

Cute Instalove Novella

This was a cute novella and is the second book in Ali Hazelwood's The STEMinist Novellas series. All the novellas can be enjoyed as standalones, but it would best be enjoyed in order since previous characters do make appearances.

Stuck with You is an instalove story with a starchy taciturn hero and a quirky awkward heroine. The majority of the interaction between the two characters is over a 24 hour period, so if you're not an instalove fan, this is probably not the novella for you. I enjoyed the use of the past and present chapters to reveal the big conflict, but because I'm not a fan of the miscommunication trope, I ultimately felt very frustrated by both characters. There's a good amount of steam in this novella, but it sometimes felt awkward because of the repeated reminders of how much bigger and physically imposing Erik was.

Meg Sylvan did a great job with the narration and I enjoyed her performance as Erik and Sadie. The only time I had some difficulty differentiating characters was when she voiced Sadie, Mara, and Hannah together. Mara's voice sounded too similar to Erik to me. Overall, this was a fun and quick listen.
