Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.
Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.
But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.
The man who killed my son.
My friends and family can’t understand it. My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past. How can I love a man like Tom?
They don’t really know me at all....
The most enthralling psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage.

The story has several flashbacks to how strong the bonds between the two families were in the past and how broken and distorted it is now. It is a VERY slow tale. If this is a psychological thriller as advertised, I haven't seen it yet. It is definitely a story about two people creating emotional turmoil, but nothing more. I stopped at 30% and it is the first book in five years that I haven't finished. I just couldn't take it anymore.
For the first twelve months of his sentence, Tom had written to Bridget regularly. She hadn't opened a single letter. She immediately shredded them, as soon as they arrived. About two years ago, Tom started to take part in a program at the prison that focused on recognizing the harm he did & trying to put things right with Jesse's mum. Bridget began visiting Tom in prison & they fell in love. How is it possible to fall in love with the man who ended your son's life?
Tom's mother is totally against the marriage. She's convinced that Bridget is dangerous & has sinister intentions. What if Bridget's only motive is to ruin Tom's second chance at life & get revenge for Jesse's death? Is she playing some kind of sick game, pretending to be a devoted wife when underneath she still blames Tom for the death of her only child?
Each chapter ends with a zinger. It's impossible not to keep reading! ALL of my assumptions were wrong! Kudos to the author.
Loved, loved, loved this book and the wonderful author who wrote it!!!!! What a shocking, twisty, unbelievably awesome book this was for me. I could not put this book down for the life of me. I picked up this book in the morning and finished it before going to bed. It was just that good. I look forward to reading more of your books. In fact I picked out Closer to read next. I’m on a mission to finish each and every one of your books.
I want to start off by saying that I have read most of KL Slaters books and every single one that I have read is to die for. KL Slater is by far one of my favorite authors and if you ever read one of her books you would understand why. I do have to say though that out of all the books I have read by her this book was by far my favorite. The storyline is what grabbed me. A woman falls in love with the man that killed her son. Wow, that sentence in itself makes me want to know more. I don’t know if I have ever come across a book with that kind of plot. Now let’s talk about my favorite part of the book, the ending. That ending was the shocker of all shockers. I nearly had a heart attack. That ending had too many twists and turns to count them all. I actual had to reread the ending to make sure I was seeing it all correctly. KL Slater really out did herself on this one. I had picked this book up while it was on sale and boy it was so well worth the money I paid for it plus much much much more. Thanks again for being such a great writer and please continue to write many more books so I can love those too.
Lastly, the characters, plot, and the ending of this book made this an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend this book and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bridget lost her only son ten years ago when his best friend Tom punched him once outside a nightclub, killing him with one blow. Now ten years later, Bridget ha her life back in track with her charity, new house and new husband....Tom, the man who has just served ten years in prison for killing Jesse...her only child.
This book had me gripped. I really enjoyed how the characters were fleshed out within the storylines and how the author brought them to life so vividly. I would highly recommend this book and am off to find more from the author!

On reflection, I honestly feel this not to be her best. I definitely needed to suspend belief to read to the end.
I am left puzzled over two things. First, I don’t believe it qualifies as a “psychological“ thriller at all. It’s much more about exposition of lies and deception within and near to a family.
Second, the sudden turn around request for a spot of child sitting, staggeringly agreed to by one of the “wronged” characters In an emergency, defied belief. This thoroughly spoilt the final quarter for me because I just couldn’t get past my own incredulity.
I award 3 stars because Kim can still intrigue and lead you by the hand, accomplished writer that she is.
