Ava Gardner: Life Is Bigger Than The Movies

 (43)IMDb 6.551min201713+
A barefoot contessa, a screwed-up princess, an exquisite drunk, a bawdy aristocrat, a nightmare for puritanical America and the moguls of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Ava Gardner never stopped loving those she loved. She turned women green and made men sweat. And rejected with all her force the bulwark of normality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A life lived without apologies in the fast lane
By Trancelucence on January 29, 2018
Ava Gardner was strong, independent, and a free spirit, and this 51-minute documentary captures her to a tee. It well-chronicles her life. She was very intelligent, well-read and well-traveled. ***SPOILER ALERT*** I was surprised to learn that at 20 years old, she visited a sound stage where an apparent "midget in drag", as she described him, dressed as Carmen Miranda, was performing an elaborate song and dance number complete with platform heels and chorus boys (see pic). It was Mickey Rooney, the MEGA-Star of MGM, and Gardner resisted his advances at first but then fell in love. A virgin on her wedding night (apparently rare in Hollywood even back then), she confided to her friends that Rooney "did NOT fail to satisfy," and had awakened her to the joys of love. She signed autographs "Mrs. Mickey Rooney". Unfortunately, Mickey was a serial adulterer and the marriage only lasted 16 months. And that was just the beginning of Ava's story. It was said that every man who met her fell in love with her. VERY interesting documentary about a stunning beauty with a personality to match.
