From the Author
I was honored to have the Foreword for the Lone Star series written by Dr. Peter Vincent Pry a long-time advocate of protecting America's vulnerable power grid from the threats of foreign bad actors or a catastrophic solar flare. To know my novels were the topic of discussion on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC was humbling.
Dr. Pry served as Chief of Staff of Congressional Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Commission (2001-2017), and is currently the Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security, a Congressional Advisory Board dedicated to achieving protection of the United States from electromagnetic pulse (EMP), Cyber Warfare, mass destruction terrorism and other threats to civilian critical infrastructures, on an accelerated basis. Dr. Pry also is Director of the United States Nuclear Strategy Forum, an advisory board to Congress on policies to counter Weapons of Mass Destruction.
About the Author
His new Lone Star Series, a post-apocalyptic EMP survival fiction series, has been described as "a high-octane mix of Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, and his own signature style to create pure thriller gold!"
Bobby has provided his readers a diverse range of topics which are both informative and entertaining. His attention to detail and impeccable research has allowed him to write bestselling books in several fiction and non-fiction genres which were described by one Amazon Top 500 Reviewer, and Vine Voice as "interesting and original. Ripped from the headlines doesn't begin to describe the excellence in this post apocalyptic fiction series.
FOREWORD BY: Dr. Peter Vincent Pry
Here is what he says about The Lone Star Series:
With the Lone Star series, you will learn about the potential of nuclear-armed satellites flying over America daily in low Earth orbit, positioned to collapse our power grid, destroy our way of life, and possibly kill up to ninety percent of Americans.
I am pleased to write this foreword for author Bobby Akart as he continues to inform his readers, through his works of fiction, about the EMP threat, both man-made and naturally occurring.

The one thing I didn't like about this book was that it was a bit wordy in the description of who was who in the government offices. The names of the government officials were not lost on me either because of the similarity to the present administration. Having said that I don't mean to pick on our present administration because it could happen to any administration at anytime. In fact I am surprised it hasn't happened yet. Don't get me wrong, I don't want this to ever happen to us, because I am in the group of people that would die first if this does ever happen to the USA. May God help us all if it does.
Maybe some plot spoilers.
I swear, this author makes it all seem possible and so immediate, as if, any day now, I'll tune in to CNN and there's breaking news about teotwawki now come upon us. I feel like rushing over to the supermarket and stocking up. Akart gives us a peek at the doings in Washington, at the political posturings and power moves that comprise the act of governing - and the action that ends up triggering the detonation of EMPs on American soil.
Set a few years from today, Akart posits an American government led by a progressive and nonmilitaristic POTUS. She used to be the Vice President, selected for her sex to balance the ticket. When the elected President unexpectedly died, she thought she was ready to take charge...
And then there's the governor of Texas, she who'd long been a proponent for secession. In a way, this series is bit of a portrait of two women in leadership positions. One hems and haws. The other takes lemons and makes lemonade.
But when it comes to who are my favorite characters, POTUS and the governor can kick rocks. Our rooting interest firmly lies with the Armstrongs, a family of assskicking ranchers that had been holding it down for the last hundred fifty years. In West Texas, in Borden County - population: 642 - the Armstrong spread encompasses over 9,000 acres, the equivalent of 15 square miles.
It may not rank as one of the top ten biggest ranches in Texas, but it's still a sizable operation and entirely self-sufficient, beholden to no one. The Armstrongs are diligent preppers and survivalists, from the ex-Texas Ranger patriarch to his wife of 30 years on down to their four capable children, yes, even Riley who sometimes doesn't take things too seriously.
Much of this book is Akart's setting up his pieces and ramping up the tension in them halls of power. My favorite bits have to do with character-building as Akart takes his time to introduce the Armstrong clan. By the time the SHTF, I was invested well and good. I am also loving the western flavor Akart infuses into these pages. Axis of Evil - what a mustache-twirling title! - is a fantastic read that's frightening in its real-world parallels. I can really see sh-- going down this way. Akart drops some knowledge and helpful hints on prepping and survivalism. He makes me want to relocate to the panhandle state. Does any other state have something like the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday? It's an annual opportunity given by the Texas comptroller for citizens to purchase emergency preparation supplies on the cheap. Man, I feel like I need to get schooled on this kind of stuff.
And, of course, the book ends on an ominous cliffhanger, the author finally done setting up.
Axis of Evil starts off a few places introducing a few characters. A bull rider and a rancher are the two main introductions and we find out a little into the book that they are from the same family. We're also introduced to a special operator that is sent all over the world doing secretive "SEAL-type" missions. We find out that the matriarch of the family is a homesteader-turned-prepper.
I have to say, I'm pretty excited for this series. I really enjoyed The Blackout and the Pandemic series by Akart and I need to revisit (read as I need to finish) the Boston Brahmin series too. Maybe when in between when each one of these books is released but Akart seems to have a pretty aggressive month-after-month release schedule planned for The Lone Star Series.
The first and major thing I will say about Axis of Evil is that it is most definitely a set-up style book. I can tell that Akart is setting into motion a chain of events that will all seem to happen at the same time. I can't tell which book will start it off but it feels like the start of book 2 could really go with a bang (literally). I had a feeling that this was going to set the story up and be more of a "Pre-Apocalyptic" book compared to Akart's typical Post-Apocalyptic books. It was similar in my head to 36 Hours where we meet the family and figure out that something is about to hit the fan.
As an Akart reader, I really enjoyed (and chuckled at) the slight references to his others books. There was a reference to the first book of the blackout series: "As it relates to a solar flare, or whatever, I’m told we’d have at least 36 Hours to warn the public..." and then the reference to the Boston Brahmin Series "In every aspect of our lives, we choose freedom!". I'll even give him a nod to the 3rd series here: “Okay, a major collapse event—economic collapse, cyber attack, pandemic, EMP."
This book is definitely in the thriller category and had me on the edge of my seat. I ended up staying up past when I wanted to just so that I could finish the book. I ended up only needing 2 days to read the entire book cover to cover. I couldn't put it down.
I think there was really something for everyone in this book. Western lovers will enjoy that the one character is a professional bull-rider. Political thriller lovers will enjoy the tensions created in the entire book (spoilers if I explain it more). Regular thriller readers will love some of the scenes in multiple places including a foreign land (more spoilers if I really explain it).
Overall, a really enjoyable setup book that has me chomping at the bit to get into the second book. I can't wait to see where Akart takes The Lone Star Series but I can tell you this. It's going to be one hell of a ride.
