Ok folks - I originally gave this item 5 stars and called it a "must have" --- but I now have a 7 month old, and this thing is gathering dust in a drawer. Novel at first, but when I need to get the job done quickly, and have a squirmy guy who wants to roll and crawl, I'm using my hands because I can't drop my fingers! So, lowering to 3 stars ("okay") since I am no longer using it!
--- original post ---
I know, I know - $8 for something to put lotion on your baby's butt? How can you justify this cost, when you can use your fingers for free? I get it - really I do. I am the woman who balances shopping for cute Carter's store outfits (on sale!) with just popping to Goodwill (baby grows so fast!). I bought thrifted maternity clothes... we can afford more, but why waste money for unnecessary things (we prefer spending money on traveling and experiential things). BUT I LOVE THIS. My poor hands are dry, cracked and just RAW from constant handwashing and dishwashing (just got gloves - why that didn't occur to me sooner, I don't know). When I applied diaper cream, it was thick and would get messy --- and somehow turn to concrete under my nails, despite my best efforts to get it off quickly (as quickly as possible when still trying to wrestle baby into a diaper, and then clothes, and then crib). I even tried wrapping a wipe around my fingers, and then dipping that into the cream and spreading - which worked (and can in a pinch), but was still weird and I felt like the wipe stole some of the cream so I was using more product than needed. This little $8 tool makes life so much easier - I dip, spread (gross as it sounds - it's like frosting a cake), suction it to my changing table, finish diapering/dressing/putting baby in his crib... then use a wipe to clean it off to be ready for the next use, wrap the wipe in the dirty diaper for disposal, pop the lid back on my tub of cream, pump some hand sanitizer, DONE. This being said, my husband doesn't mind using his hands... but he's a guy, so maybe the shorter nails make it a non-issue, or maybe he just doesn't have my naturally dry skin?
The downsides - price. $8 seems high for what it is, but it is very soft and flexible. The suction cup feature is nice, but doesn't always suction to things well - I've had it fall off on me a few times, which left me thinking I was crazy and misplaced it, when really it jumped off into the hamper, etc. The colors are vivid and I am a fan - will be a baby shower gift in the future :)
