Okay, so it turned out Keane was objectively gorgeous, and, fine, pretty funny, too. But did he have to be so damned in love with himself? I mean, jeez, the arrogant way he flashed those dimples was just so orchestrated. And, honestly, what kind of guy uses the phrase “baby doll” with a straight face? Oh, that’s right: the kind of guy who’s a male stripper. Yup, the jerk turned out to be Seattle’s answer to Magic Mike, a stripper known as “Ball Peen Hammer”--which meant Keane Morgan was emphatically not the kind of guy I’d ever fall for. Not. At. All. N
Well, until Keane convinced me to fall for him, that is. Which I did. Hard.
NOTE: The Morgan Brothers are a series of five interconnected standalones. Recommended reading order is to start with HERO or CAPTAIN, as book 1, despite series numbering, because both books run on same timeline, alongside each other, and their events happen first in chronology. However, if you do not mind skipping around in time a bit, you can start with any of the Morgan Brothers books, despite series numbering, and fully enjoy it!

Didn’t hate it. ( If you’ve read any of her work before ,the reasons are more obvious.)
There might be ⚠️ spoilers ahead ⚠️
Ok,what I liked. ( Not my usual place to start,I usually like to complain first 😉 but I thought I switch things up.)
Never did I find this “hilarious “ like the book 📚 describes itself as,but I did find it interesting and engaging and I always curious to see where the story was going to go next.
Sadly,it never really went where I hoped it would go. But I always loved and respected the writers willingness to let the characters be so raw and open and honest and real with each other. I appreciated the lack of games and open communication w/each other. None that long drawn out miscommunication bs because they couldn’t be bothered to stop and sit and talk for five minutes. Very refreshing.
Buuuuut ( Felt it coming ,didn’t ya?)
But, but I HATED, hated, hated that over half the book was just them traveling to L.A.. It’s was only two days. Two Days! But it felt like a week, their trip w a s so loooooong! And when they F I N A L L Y get “together” in L. A. , I think their together like two ? Maybe three days before the whole cliched bs ( Sure,I can have a fling and NOT get attached . Sure I can! I have to be F’ed by you!!!!!! Oooooops,I think I’ve fallen in love with you !) He freaks ( he shares the feels and doesn’t want to). Breaks her heart 💔 and his own and runs away like a coward . Then at the very, very comes running back to make up . The End.
Bull S !
That’s just beyond cliché. So been there done that ,we all deserve fries, burgers, shakes and a cute t shirt for it! Plus, plus I started w/Dax’s book 📖 “Rockstar” and except for some differences here and there ,ok it’s pretty different ,but very, very similar at the same time.
Almost lost at first sight, very fast paced love, sex and addiction to each other , but more sex than relationship til the very end. In both guy is deeply emotionally immature til last very chapters of the book. Not really a couple til last few chapters of the book.
Loved 💞💕💞, loved 💞💕, loved 💕💞 both Maddy’s and Violet’s (Dax’s girl ) emotional maturity and standing up for what they wanted. Great to see ,especially in such young women. But all the silly nicknames,( sweet cheeks, sugar balls etc.) gods did they get old. And while I’m deeply thrilled to see guys be so unapologetically into each other and affectionate in a non homosexual way and unafraid of what anyone think . I loved it . But why did they call each other wifey ? If that explained in an earlier book ? I love that ! I mean why can’t two ppl that close and caring and it not be sexual ? We need more of that. We see it all the time with women but rarely with men. Well, not like this anyway.
For me the getting to know you phase was way,way to long, especially when getting together was a blink and you miss it in comparison. The the “break up”. Then the chapters while we wait for Keane to get a clue. Gah 😖!
Didn’t love it but would recommend.
Ps.if I ever have to see “bee tee dubs” for by the way “btw” again,I swear I’m gonna scream 😱
HATED THAT so hard!
4.5 stars!!!
“Still livin’ the dream, dolin’ out fantasies to the horny ladies one lap dance at a time.”
Ever since I discovered Lauren Rowe with her fantastic series “The Club” I have been an addict. From the first read and every read thereafter I have gelled with her writing and though for some it is over the top, for me, it ticks my boxes. I love the cute romance, her sense of humour albeit in the gutter at times always has me laughing and in stitches and in this book her wit and comedic genius rules in spades. Yes, it can be a little childish, yes the dialogue is hilarious but our Peenie is a little bit like Peter Pan, he is the boy that never grew up, but in Ball Peen Hammer he comes a long, long way.
“He’s Daffy Duck trapped inside Prince Charming’s body. Quite an entertaining combination, I must admit. He’s like watching my own private reality TV show.”
Keane “Ball Peen Hammer” Morgan is a male stripper, definitely think Magic Mike. He is the epitome of beautiful and stunningly handsome and he knows it. Yes, he is a tad immature, he is cocky, a touch arrogant but this man has a huge heart and a heart of gold. He is naturally hilarious, couldn’t be serious if he tried, lives life to the max but when he loves, he loves hard and it has never happened before, but then, he had never met Maddy Milliken.
“…I’ll never hate you as long as I live.”
Maddy Milliken is my kind of woman; she was totally “adorbsicles” as our Peenie lovingly names her. While quiet and unassuming on first appearances, when this girl gets her confidence mojo she can battle with the best of them. She is quick smart, her sense of humour is fabulous and she takes no crap, especially from Keane. While these two didn’t hit it off straight away, once these two embark on their road trip, all bets are off. Maddy was a budding film maker and documentaries were her speciality. Embarking on a new adventure to film school a road trip is in order and her over protective sister makes her take a chaperone…our Keanie Peenie!
“My middle name is “Put Your Effing Shirt On, Keane Elijah Effing Morgan,”” I say. Keane laughs uproariously.
“God, you’re adorbsicles, Maddy, just like Zander said you’d be.”
“And you’re annoy-sicles.”
These two just made one and other, so well suited, their banter was infectious and they put each other at ease. They believed in each other, they fed off each other and their chemistry, platonic and sexual was off the charts. Lauren Rowe really delivered on the character connection and you just could not help but fall in love with these two and champion them along. While Keane at first glances is not lacking in anything he needs his time outs where he just shuts himself off from the rest of the world, it is this that really shows us his vulnerable side and for all his bravado and charisma it was great to get this glimpse of him. It showed the reader that he was in fact real and was in fact a little intimidated of the route that his job had taken him.
“You’ve unleashed me, baby. I’m brand new.”
I laughed hard and I laughed long with this one. My heart was just bursting with love for these two. I’m sure that Lauren Rowe must have been a dude in a past life because Keane was too real, his vocabulary consisted of fun, filth or “Nietzsche,” and his friendship with his best mate, Zander would have anyone in hysterics. These two together made many a laugh out loud moment…think the tune of Old McDonald…some weed… “D**k-pic to a chick-chick, everywhere a d**-pic. Here a d**k, there a pic, everywhere a d**ck-pic…E-I-E-I-O.” You had to be there… but it was the little things that made you laugh so hard yet underneath was a beautiful love story for two people that were complete opposites yet were the yin to the yang, the tea to the biscuits, the ice cream to shark week… they just went.
“Okay, confession? I don’t actually know who Nietzsche is. All I know is he’s the guy I’m supposed to name-drop whenever I wanna sound super smart.”
So, if you want a good laugh, I can highly recommend this, it’s an easy read, a comforting read, a turn that frown upside down read. Keanie Peanie is too infectious and Maddy Miliken, as I said is just “adorbsicles.” Another hit for Lauren Rowe.
“And that right there is why I love you the most.”
“Bee tee dubs”, cosmic karma when Keane wants people to him but he never looks at his phone!
Spoiler alert! I think I would of believed and liked this one a little more if Keane had gone back to life and tried to be a real guy and hook up again and found out the hard way what he had.
Pet peeve: The author really stresses how “Objectively attractive” people are in each book but not “attracted to” that person per say. It’s a little annoying after the third book.

I totally love the Morgan boys and the whole crazy, funny Morgan family. I have been reading the books in order. So I'd come across the weird and childlike Keane with his peculiar way of speaking and his bromance with Zander. I didn't really know what to make of Keane before this book and I wasn't thinking I'd love this book. BUT I TOTALLY Loved LOVED KEANE AND MADDY. Loved the way their unexpected & unlikely friendship and then romance evolved. Loved how well they got on during their road trip. Both had losses that had affected the trajectory of their lives and they hide behind fronts. But both are able to be their real selves with each other. Their connection felt authentic and deep and based on other things not just the hot sex they had.
Keane is weird and out there but so lovely and Maddy is able to accept him as he is and see the sweet man beneath the shallow fun loving BPH on the surface! ❤️❤️
Actually loved the bromance with Zander and can't wait to read his story. And love the music references in all Lauren's books and the 'playlist' at the start of the book.

I like the dynamic between Keane and Maddy, the whole hate thing Maddy has going on is hilarious and Keane is a big old dope which gives me major “floppy haired golden retriever boyfriend” vibes.
This one was quite angst filled which I really enjoyed and the turn around of ‘Ball Peen Hammer’.
Love a good character development trope
3 Stars

I loved this book because it surprised the hell out of me.
I didn't expect to enjoy a book about a male stripper.
I didn't expect to love a self-proclaimed player.
I didn't expect said stripper to throw out so much wisdom about what women deserve, particularly in the sack.
I didn't expect to learn about my own anatomy from a book about a male stripper/player.
I didn't expect to question by own prejudices.
But, my people, I did.
Keane Morgan initially grated on my nerves. He came across as self-important, and his frequent use of terms like "babydoll" made me shudder. Maybe I should have paid more attention to the blurb; Maddie was just as annoyed with Keane at first, but he won us both over, slowly but surely. Well done to Lauren Rowe for making me fall in love with a male stripper who thinks he's god gift to women and refers to such women as pickles. (But honestly, there is an earnest and wonderful heart beneath all that bravado!)
Maddie was definitely a sweetheart, and I could relate to her innocence and feelings of social ineptitude. That being said, she could hold her own against Keane, giving as good as she got from him. Their banter during the road trip was fun, a good balance for their sexual chemistry. Plus, they made such a great creative team!
A special shoutout to the side characters, especially Zander. A certain picture was a bad move (and Keane called him out), but Zander turned out to be a gem. And I LOVED the bromance!!!!!!!!! It made me feel so warm and fuzzy, the way they called each other wife. <3 There was just so many hilarious and wonderful conversations between the two MCs and their friends and families, especially in group chats, and it makes me want to get all of Lauren's other books on audio so I can continue the fun.
And I am not joking on that anatomy bit! I actually had to google a couple things while reading, and now I am enlightened.
When am I going to learn not to underestimate books, especially romance novels? I'm always trying to convince people that there is more to romance novels than trash, and while this did have a lot of steamy action, it also made me laugh out loud, reexamine my assumptions, and swoon like crazy. What more could you want from a good escapist book?
