The next is equally as gruesome...the remains of a young child have been discovered in a drained community pond. When his sister recommends a Baltimore PD forensic artist to recreate a sketch of the child, Rick is skeptical, but soon realizes that Jenna Thompson may be an asset. Now if only he wasn't attracted to her. Jenna Thompson has a terrifying past that she had blanked from her mind, but as the 25th anniversary to those events looms closer, she gets flashes of memory. The memories have probably been triggered by the discovery of a young girl locked in a closet on her last case but whatever the reason, it's starting to come back. And Jenna's arrival may have unleashed a killer. Another good story in the Nashville Morgans series.

This was an intense, suspenseful, and extremely complex story where the past and present collide with disastrous results. It's certainly not a story that you'll want to miss.
There were a few editing errors, which are very uncommon for this author's books, but they were all minor and didn't take away from the flow of the story.
I would highly suggest that you read this series in order, as it will give you a better understanding of the characters, and the dynamics between all of them.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

What set this book apart from the first was the unique aspects contained within the story. Let me warn you there are spoilers ahead
SPOILERS.........
The dynamic of the two men that worked together in each homicide I thought was an interesting twist. The fact that each man had certain desires and how Billy played on their insecurities was brilliant and made for an intriguing read. There was so much going on in this book, from the discovery of the Lost Girl, to Jenna's backstory to the current murders. There never seemed to be a dull moment. My biggest disappointment, however, was not finding out what happened to Heather's parents or should I say murderers. She served such a big part in the story that I felt that not hearing how they were punished left the entire thing slightly unfinished. Great read though!

In the previous novel, we learn he was shot, along with his K9, during a routine traffic stop and is on medical leave from the force. As this novel begins, Rick has come back and garnered a position in Homicide.
Jenna Thompson is a cop from Baltimore with a past. She’s in Nashville trying to find answers about her history. An accomplished sketch artist, she’s asked to consult when the bones of a young child are found in a park.
If you enjoy thrillers I recommend this series.

The 2and book in the Morgan series deals with Childhood Trauma, mental illness and obsession. The Morgan family is the epitome of Southern Law Enforcement in a small town. The 2and oldest Rick was nearly killed in the line of duty and returned to the force after a lengthy rehabilitation. He's assigned to a case in which his younger sister brings in a talented but mysterious Sketch Artist to help solve a Cold Case. Great storyline.

I have read and loved many other books by Mary Burton. I’m a fan of Ms Burton.

This book however fell short in many ways. It felt trite and lacking in intrigue, romance and depth. Add to it were all the inconsistencies and inaccuracies from the previous book in the series that other readers/reviewers have pointed out.

Georgia is blonde in the 1st book of the series. She’s now described as red haired (could have changed hair color, I suppose?)

KC was off visiting his son in the 1st book. According to this 2nd book in the series, he has no children.

The Morgan family home was inherited by all 4 Morgan children in book 1. In book 2, it’s said to be Deke’s and he gave it to his brother Rick.

Proofreading mistakes. For example: Jenna is eating at the pub with Rick. And the sentence incorrectly referenced “KC” enjoying the food.

The romance between Jenna and Rick seems unlikely and unbelievable. Jenna seemed cold and I found her very unlikable. I didn’t like how she slept with Mike and then just cut him off cold. Only to lust after Rick. Didn’t sit well with me.

The rift between Rick and his brother Alex was mentioned without any explanation in book 1 and early in this 2nd book. It made me feel like I had missed a book or a prequel. Then it’s explained in this book in a completely flat and anticlimactic way.

Overall, I tried to like this book. But was a very frustrating read. Could have been so much better.

Good story. Pity about the loads and loads and loads of typos, inconsistencies, continuity and timeline errors. All noticed on a quick read. Where was the proofreader or editor who allowed it to be published like this? Also Georgia blonde in book 1, redhead in book 2 and strawberry blonde book 3. All 4 shared ownership Big House book 1 but deke sole owner at start of book 2.
Book should be free with all the errors. Surely experienced author should be better than this.

This is the first book by Mary Burton that I have read and I bought it on the strength of the reviews on Amazon. Now I'm wondering if I have read the same book as everyone else. The story was not bad and generally quite readable, but I would not term it as "romantic suspense". Despite the body count there is not a great deal of suspense, and the "romance" comes very near the end, rather like an afterthought. However, the main problem with the book, which really spoiled it for me, was the large numbers of errors, both in the typography and in the narrative. You learn to expect a few mistakes of type-setting in mass market paperbacks, but here there were endless differences in the story. One of the characters was introduced as having dirty blonde hair, but a couple of paragraphs later she was a brunette. On another occasion the wrong character's name was used. And there were many more instances of poor or non-existent editing, which I regret I didn't note down at the time as I cannot find them again and don't intend to re-read the book to find them. It may seem trivial, but these errors really stood out to me, and coupled with the mediocre writing and plotline I shall not be ordering any more of Mary Burton's books.
