Story lines that are both sad and happy

Andie Mcdowell is great and if you are one of her fans you will love her performance. However, if you have lost a parent or struggle with that issue you need to consider that the loss of a parent is a major theme in this movie.

Snapshot of a family evolving and turtles

I love beaches, always have. I loved the cinematography in this movie. The story was a very slowly evolving mix of reunited daughter, drama between siblings and sweet beach scenes where the mom thinks back on days gone by. I thought Chad M. Murray was great here. I liked the way the daughter spoke. Very soft but set. The other supporting actors and actresses, as well as the turtles, did a fine job portraying friends and family: adding to the story. There are truths to be uncovered along with the turtles. And did I mention the turtles? Towards the end the movie did get some tears from me but then the actual ending was sweet. Reminded me of a series. I recommend it. Enjoy! :)

Predictable with some tender moments
Verified purchase
Andie McDowell played well the part of Lovie, a mother dying of cancer eager to reconnect with her children after a turbulent past with their now-deceased father. Generally, the plot was predictable, but with tender moments that made it worth sticking through. However, the relationship between Cara and Brett was not believable, and Chad's body language toward Cara made me cringe at times.

Not worth the rental fee.

Soon after I finished reading the book, I became aware that there was a movie. I knew, of course, that the movie wouldn't live up to the book, which was a decent read, but it was a pretty big letdown. Maybe if I had just watched the movie without ever reading the book, it would have been a little more entertaining, but it's doubtful.

Beachy romance with substance
Verified purchase
I saw this before reading the book, but after reading I know it doesn't follow the book completely. However, whether you read the book or not, this is a great movie! It has much more nuance and depth than a typical Hallmark romance - not formulaic at all. Plus the beautiful lowcountry and South Carolina beaches are like a gorgeous extra character. I sometimes revisit it in the winter just to see sun and sand :)

Cookie-cutter and boring
Verified purchase
The same "high-powered female executive in the big city goes back to her family's small town" cookie-cutter plot as most subpar romance movies, but with an obnoxious dose of animal activist propaganda thrown in. The only good part of the movie is Andie MacDowell.
