The day before Christmas, snuggled on his floor, Bear sleeps soundly with a great big snore. "Dear Bear. Get up!" Mouse shouts in his ear. "We won't let you sleep through Christmas this year." Bear's friends are determined that he'sawake for Christmas and they get him up from his hibernation on Christmas Eve. Bear is excited to experience the holiday with his friends and tries very hard to stay awake, helping to find the right Christmas tree, making mint tea and singing carols. Finally, though, it's his friends who have fallen asleep - and Bear Stays Up! He makes food and presents for his friends, not noticing that Father Christmas has also come to visit. Christmas morning dawns bright and happy for all!

I love this book and so does my 18 month old. I purchased as a Christmas gift and read it to my son on Christmas Eve. It was the perfect book! It’s a great small size for little hands and the pictures are adorable! I love the little story it tells. My son loved all the different animals. A great story to read year round with your little or as a gift for someone special.

I absolutely love the illustrations in this book. Poor bear has such difficulty staying awake for Christmas so his friends keep him busy with lots of chores to prepare for that special day. But wait and see who actually makes it through the night to give his friends the best Christmas. This tale of friendship will warm your heart. There are so many great discussion starters in this story as well. What is important in maintaining a friendship? Why is bear having trouble staying awake? Why do you think his friends gave him a quilt for Christmas? What traditions do you celebrate at Christmas? I have read this book for many years to my preschoolers and it will be a must read to my someday grandchildren!

This is a very sweet story about a bear and his friends. The friends' goal is to keep bear awake so that he can participate in all the Christmas festivities. It emphasizes the joy of giving as the bear ends up staying up all night to make gifts for his friends, and then the friends surprise the bear with a special quilt at the end. It's a sweet, heartwarming story you will want to read over again. My 4 year old loved it!

These Bear books are my absolute fav to read my one year old. He doesn't ALWAYS let me get through the whole book, bcuz that's just the age he's at. I really animate the story, & that keeps him engaged. He's at the level where he's more interested in shorter board books. There's only 2 or 3 sentences per page, so its still do able for this age. We have this one & Bear Can't Sleep, so far. & I think they're just the sweetest & best illustrated children's books. These & Little Blue Truck are my favs from his book collection! He'll 100% of the time sit through an entire little blue truck book...& he's almost to the point where he'll always sit through a full Bear book too.
At least get one Bear book to try...you won't regret it.

This book tells the story of Bear, who is hoping to FINALLY succeed at waking up from hibernation and staying up for Christmas. It features the same characters as the other Bear books, including Mouse, Raven, and Badger. This is, in my opinion, one of the very best books from th Bear series. The story is a great example of the giving and caring spirit of Christmas. The animals exchange thoughtful, handmade gifts and have a wonderful time enjoying one another's company. They support and embrace Bear for who he is, and he reciprocates. The text is enjoyable to read and has a natural rhythm that will please children. The charming illustrations feature lots of fun details -- you'll notice something new each time you read this book! This is a secular book -- it features a Christmas tree, gifts, and Santa Claus, but no mention of the religious meaning of Christmas.

Wonderful story, beautiful artwork, love the prose. Wonderful story about woodland friends helping their buddy stay up (for once) so he doesn't miss Christmas. They all contribute in their own way to make it special. Very sweet, lovely and memorable book. We read it every Christmas and all throughout the year, one of our favorites. Have given this as a gift to many and all love it. I would opt for the LARGE book, as the details in the pictures are so neat for the kiddos to notice. Two thumbs up. My 4 year old grand daughter loved this book. We read it over and over again. Gave it to her before Christmas because the waiting was so hard on her and it helped her get to the Holiday easier. She saw the gifts under the tree and could not stand it so a new book was in order.

Great illustrations, very cute story, and great rhyme scheme. I hate when rhyming books don't have a good rhythm, but this one definitely does. :) I bought one for our son and one for our niece and plan on making this a Christmas tradition like "The Night Before Christmas." It also prompted me to buy two of the other Bear books!

Received this book today as this will be for my one year old Christmas Eve box. Little and hard pages book to prevent any mishaps with rips☺️. Lovely little book about a bear and his friends and waiting to experience Christmas it is fun and bright and not to heavy on the reading to prevent lack of concentration and encourages you're child to engage. Very happy .
