About the author

Heather McCollum is an USA Today Bestselling Author of 16th and 17th century Scottish romances. Brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines are her favorites!
The rugged beauty and rich history of Great Britain captivates Ms. McCollum each time she visits. The country’s history and landscape have been a backdrop for her stories since her very first book.
When she is not dreaming up adventures and conflict for brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines, she spends her time educating women on the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer. She is a survivor and resides with her very own Highland hero and three spirited children in the wilds of suburbia on the mid-Atlantic coast.

Ava was quite the clever woman and some of her improvised plans started out good. It saved both herself and Grace many times. And Ava will do just about anything to protect Grace, they are SO close. It's almost like they are sisters regardless of their difference in status. It also landed them in some unexpected things that go sideways too. This was going to be another of those things that will go sideways. But Grace and Ava really had no other choice. And Ava was really good at thinking on her feet. I really liked her a lot.
Grace was quite the gentle lady, she also was fairly quick to follow after Ava and her adventures. She just about faints when she meets The Beast. There is no way she can marry HIM. But it was also good to see Grace begin to toughen up a bit as the story goes on. She also starts to come into her own.
Tor being titled with the name"The Beast of Argos Castle" was really misguided. Yes, he is a tough and fierce warrior but he is also so much more. And Ava finds ways to tap that so much more. And he fights her all the way until suddenly he just can't. Their battle of wills was interesting and often funny. They made me smile more than once.
This story kept me involved every step of the way. It was at times unpredictable, mixed with some twists and turns. It also had some interesting secondary people in it and that includes Tor's mother Joan. Is there a H.E.A? Yes, and I liked how the story ended. It also made me want to read more of this series. Bring on the stories for Grace and also Tor's sister, Mairi Maclean.
I found our heroine to be strong, brave, and caring. I always feel a book that starts with lies isn't going to end well but I felt the heroine was justified in the tales she told.
I thought the villain was very slimy and creepy.
Our hero was strong, kind, and okay maybe a little rough around the edges.
I felt the author did a great job with the women in this story and showing them as smart and brave. I felt the connection between our heroine Ava and her companion Grace.
Overall a quick read. I would have liked a little more details into Ava's past and maybe a little more build on her life prior to arriving at the castle. But overall an enjoyable read.
Ava and Grace grab the first opportunity to leave their home when it becomes dangerous to them. That opportunity happens to be a wedding proposal Ava has accepted for Grace.
The problem? The husband would be the Beast of Aros Castle. He has a certain reputation that doesn't sit well with the two Englishwomen. But they choose to have whatever fate awaits for them in Scotland, than remain in York.
Tor doesn't want or need a wife. Been there, done that, got stuck with the nickname. But when he meets Ava and Grace, things start changing. It takes a little for Ava to change his mind, but she succeeds.
I love their banter, their relationship. It all happens gradually. No love-at-first-sight here. Sure, there's plenty of attraction and chemistry galore, but love comes after.
After all, the Beast has no heart. Or so he claims.
Of course that it's not just about love between Ava and Tor, but there's also politics involved, and the English wanting to encroach on Tor's domain, and an unhappy sister that needs saving.
My heart ached for them, I understood Ava but also Tor.
Needless to say, this is how you write a historical romance novel with a hot Scot. I've loved book two, I love book one and I can't wait for book three!
5 stars.
1522 England
This story revolves around Vincent👺, the new Earl of Somerset, and his debauched pursuit of his half sister, Grace and his illegitimate foster sister, Ava💃💋, across England and Scotland.
The Two young women flee to northern Scotland where they exchange identities and dupe the young laird, Tor🐺🍆⛲🔪 into an arranged marriage with Ava💃💋, misrepresenting herself as the noble lady Grace.
The tale flows quickly, and isn't overly long or involved. It's a good choice for an evening of escapism.
