About the Author

Fascinating conglomerat of stories from and about Alethea Kontis, in a crazy glitter world of cons and fairy tales and romance and laughter and now I need to go to a Con and meet this wonderful lady so she can be my friend too (which won't happen because I live in Germany and all my money goes to books). But a girl has to dream, doesn't she?

I read this book years ago after having met Alethea at a book signing. I picked it up thinking it was going to be another fantstical story but I was so wrong. Its full of essays and anecdotes from the author as well as her family and friends. This book gives you a sneak peek into the life and world this is wholly Alethea.

This is a beautifully written collection of essays and poems by the enchanting Alethea Kontis, who I had the pleasure of meeting at Context 21 in Columbus, OH. I bought a copy of her children's book, AlphaOops, and asked her to sign it for my daughters. She's wonderful.

I enjoyed this collection of essays because I simultaneously was enthralled by how enchanting her life seems to be and amazed out how alike we seem to think. Hopefully, I'll get chance to meet her again, so that I asked her to sign my book and so that I can tell her what a role model she is for us girls who want to break into the writing business.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what it's like to be a writer, a woman, and experience the wonder that is a convention.

I'm friends with Alethea Kontis, and she definitely doesn't want you to send thousands of dollars to a reseller to buy a copy of this book. She didn't make that much money off it! Why should they?

She's going to launch a Kickstarter program in Fall of 2012 to to reprint a new (affordable!) edition of BEAUTY & DYNAMITE along with a sequel, MURPHY'S GIRL.
