You watch the least unlikable of four extraordinarily unlikable rich girls trying to save them from being killed at the end of a very, very tedious-to-watch day, including some simplistic, overly obvious pseudo philosophy ("Sisyphus!" "The Butterfly Effect!"). Even worse than questionable (over-)acting and awful writing was, to me, how everyone was, and clearly looked, about 10 years older than their characters are supposed to be. I do not understand why big budget Hollywood keeps doing this.
It apparently also doubles as a really annoying anti-bullying cum tolerance message to some, and intends to show that it connects with its target audience (not so bright, conformist teenage girls) by having a white middle class rap soundtrack. I can honestly say that the only moment of the movie I enjoyed was when the four would die again.

This is a must see. The production quality and acting is good, but what makes this film outstanding is its surprisingly profound message. I watched this film not too long after the passing of a friend of mine, so it resonated and impacted me even more because of it. This film really puts life into perspective and is compelling...This is one of those films that can be life changing..

I really can't overstate just how ridiculously awesome this film is. There's a bit of the Groundhog Day scenario, where high school mean girl “Sam” is forced to relive the day she died over and over again, but that's where the comparison ends, as it becomes a powerful drama about trying to remedy a lifetime of wrongs in a single day.

I'm not going to put any spoilers in this review, because, while certain plot elements feel familiar, there are surprises. The main premises in the film have been seen in other movies: Groundhog Day, Mean Girls. The premises work here for the same reasons they do there: they address the fundamental issues of life. What matters? Why are we here? What is the significance of this particular moment? What if this moment is all we have? What would you do or say and who would you be if you didn't have to worry about what other people think?
This is wrapped into a gorgeous move. The upper upper, pretty way upper middle class art direction is dead on. I loved the acting, cinematography, and soundtrack. The kicker is that I bought this by accident while navigating through my new blu-ray player. (It's smart - me, not so much). I love it. It is a movie about teenagers on the surface, but underneath, it's about all of us.

Samantha Kingston (Zoey Deutch) is the epitome of a mean girl. She and her three friends rule the school. Their favorite past time? Tormenting Juliet Sykes (Elena Kampouris) by calling her psycho and other dehumanizing names. Today is a special day. It’s Cupid Day, and they’ll be getting tons of roses. Today is also the day that Samantha hands her V-card over to her boyfriend. But first she’s going to a party, hosted by her former childhood friend (Logan Miller), whom she never talks to anymore. Something happens at that party, an event so unpleasant that she and her friends leave the party early, resulting in a car wreck that kills them all. Or does it? There’s no way to know for sure. You see, it never happened, because today is yesterday. Samantha repeats the same day over and over. Same conversations. Same party. Same unpleasant event. Same car accident. In order for it to stop, Samantha will have to make some big changes, and some major sacrifices...
“Maybe for you there’s a tomorrow. Maybe for you there’s one-thousand or three-thousand, or ten. So much time, you can bathe in it. So much time, you can waste it. But for some of us, there’s only today, and what you do today matters.”
I read the Lauren Oliver book when it first came out, and I remember thinking how well written and moving it was. It had atmosphere, life-like descriptions, a three-dimensional heroine — all of the makings of a great Young Adult novel. My problem with it? It was repetitive, but that’s what happens when you write the YA version of GROUNDHOG DAY. And that’s what this movie is — GROUNDHOG DAY, high school edition. There’s a twist to it though, but I won’t go into it. This is a great adaptation, thought provoking and hauntingly beautiful. It centers on personal growth — and this growth stems from the choices we make. Loved it! The cast is great. It has Logan Miller, who plays the obnoxious Martin in LOVE, SIMON. He is adorable in this movie though. And I recognized Zoey Deutch from Netflix’s SET IT UP. She has one of the prettiest and most natural smiles I’ve seen in recent actresses, right up there with GAME OF THRONE’s Emilia Clarke. Her deep brown eyes reminded me of someone and, sure enough, she is Lea Thompson’s daughter. I see this actress getting lots of screen time in the next few years. As for the setting, I love the grayish, misty cinematography, and the scene where Samantha and Juliet run in the dark woods is my favorite! I recommend this movie a lot. Downsides? We’ll always compare this movie to GROUNDHOG DAY. Nothing we can do about that. GROUNDHOG DAY is a great film, and being compared to it is a big compliment. I give BEFORE I FALL five enthusiastic Crème de la Honey Crème cappuccinos (Mini’s Special!).

I loved the character development of Sam. It also gave an insight on each girl in the movie as they were not nice but it showed that they are human. Sam helped change their mindset. I also liked what I would say is an accurate representation of what it would be like to wake up to the same day multiple times. Denial. Anxiety. Depression. Anger. Realization. Acceptation. Change.
She didn't turn her back on her mean friend, instead she built her up in hopes of helping her.
I also found it realistic that she could not talk the girl down from suicide. You can't just expect for someone to be like "okay cool, you bullied me for years and put me through hell? Now you want me to live? Sure why not?" instead this person is in a deep depression.
The part I hated but made such an impact was the fact that Sam ended up actually dying. For some reason I kept expecting her to make it all better and live but that isn't realistic either (not that this movie is totally realistic lol). It was just great shock. This movie opened up my eyes to not take everyday for granted. Thank you

Movie is OK
Reviewed in Canada on January 22, 2019
This movie was OK but not great. It is about a teenage girl who dies in an accident. She relives the last day of her life several times. Each time she makes some changes to how she lives the day. Finally she makes some permanent changes so that she doesn't have to relive her last day again. The acting was fine. The story starts off rather slowly and after about 20 minutes it gets more interesting. It was entertaining but it wasn't a movie that I would want to watch again. I like movies that are more fast paced.

Disappointed, kind of boring

Bought this after I saw it advertised on Happy Death Day. I liked the concept, the movie itself just made me ask "why" several times, and I wont spoil it but the ending was a terrible ending. It was a boring movie, bad ending, wont watch again.

Let's start with the annoying and stereotyped dumb characters; The awful and loud music enough to interfere with the dialogue, not that it mattered much as the script sounds like written by a 15 year old; Cringe fest from very cliché situations; Summary: Little redeeming value. Pass. Fast.
