About the Author

Sara McBride has participated in NaNoWriMo since 2003 and has been Los Angeles municiple liaison since 2011. She is also the host and founder of the Los Angeles improv for writers group, which created this anthology. By day, Sara is a research scientist and manager for a biological lab at California Institute of Technology, however her first degree is in Theater (Playwriting) from UCLA. By night, she trains in long form narrative improv with Impro Theater, where she learns to improvise entire plays. Her publications can be read in peer reviewed scientific journals (Cell, Immunity, Journal of Immunology, PNAS), scientific magazines, like The Scientist, and her other topics of writing include whisky, travel and literary reviews (Fine Expressions, Solo Travelist, East Jasmine Review). Her plays have been produced in Los Angeles and New York City. She is obsessed with Jane Austen and obscure mythological figures. Great concept: offer writers a challenge (or two, three) and then publish the most exciting submissions. The first story was a home run--loved it. And then there was the story written by that young author...the one about the Amazonian rainforest. Nice product-vendor tie-in.

Such a Fun Read! Great gift

this is a great collection of short stories. Some funny some tense. In this day and age when so many people commute or don't have time to sit down and read day Charles Dickens novel, the short stories are imaginative and fun reading.
Just in time for the holidays it would make a great gift. I plan to buy one for all the people who seem to have everything.

Delightful, Spooky, Thrilling, Fun!

Believe Me Not contains more than 45 innovative short stories from talented new authors and professional writers alike. In the same tradition as the Machine of Death anthology series, the stories in this collection share a common trope of the unreliable narrator–some funny, some naive, some dangerous–but all keeping secrets or hiding their real selves. Part of the fun of reading Believe Me Not is trying to puzzle out the truth before the rest of the characters do. There are also fun Easter Eggs and hidden puzzles throughout the book as a whole, which direct the reader to contests on the publisher's website.

This anthology would make a great gift for classroom teachers to use with their students as a way of teaching short story structure and narrative voice. I also recommend it for anyone interested in reading stories with a twist. Five Stars!

A charming anthology that will please a multitude of readers

This is a wonderful anthology written by a diverse group of writers—excellent for those interested in the literary device of an unreliable narrator, looking for up-and-coming authors in the greater L.A. and international arena, and for readers of all levels who love to devour anything from engaging stories to literary fiction. I highly recommend it.

An entertaining book with a diverse group of short, easily read stories. They are so very different I don't think you can like all of them, but those I read were interesting. Since the writers are at the start of their careers they have room for growth and I think the future looks bright.
