I love this movie

It's follows the progression of a relationship between the isolated only over achieving daughter of a secretly failed publisher and ferocious recluse controversial writer of the seminal book of her father's publishing house. Their unlikely bonding over the course of an impossible for both book tour. Wonderful music, eloquent dialogue, clever devices, beautiful art direction. Un-invasive personal artful camera. It has a sane heart. Wonderful cast. I love Lucy and Rachel's banter. The evil Jack's ploys. The contributions of the excellent cat. I've watched it several times. If it's Michael Caine's final film, he chose well.

Kinda gross and pointless....so many f words?

I think the overall story could have been really good, but they decided to make it filthy, for me it was a bummer. Paid $.99 and I feel like I got 99 f words just because. I was not impressed. The movie tries really hard to get us into the plot at the beginning, it was awkward. Once into it, it replaced anything good with filth. Left me thinking I should have saved my money.

Dark comedy!!

I only rented this film because Michael Caine starred and he still exudes brilliance at 88! Laughs and clever turnaround story trying to unite millennials with older generations.

Michael Caine is a deep and abiding joy. Good getting to know Aubry Plaza. See great roles ahead for her.

No plot + unlikable characters = Crap

There is no plot beyond "miserable old man swears a lot and young people who don't know any better think it's cool."

The only way a movie like this works is on the strength of the old man they cast as the writer.

Unfortunately, Michael Caine is probably the most overrated actor of the last half-century.

What a shitshow. You won't care about a single character.

Not a comedy

If you want to watch a drama where a touching relationship unfolds, sure. This movie is a fine choice. It drags quite a bit in the middle and is fairly predictable in a lot of ways, but the last 20 minutes of the film is acted well. The trailer makes it look like it will be a comedy however, and it is absolutely not. If you want to laugh this is not the choice for you. Also the script is pretty terrible but the cast pulls it off (mostly) despite that because of their talent.

Caine and Plaza make this film good enough for a viewing.

Best Sellers had a Wonder Boys meets Bad Santa vibe for a bit and then veers into Lost in Translation territory. There are entertaining performances and some good plot points but the shifting of tones makes this film feel unbalanced and lost. I like what they were shooting for but Best sellers doesn't make it to its destination(s). Just my opinion.
