An age-gap, billionaire romance where secrets and revenge are embraced in a dangerous tango…
It began with lies. So many lies.
I was born unwanted. In pain. Addicted. A crack baby.
I was given a second chance, but I want a third. A fresh start—out from under my parents’ control. I was on my way to building my new life when my neighbor crashed into it, wrecking all my plans.
Heir to his family fortune, Henry Ward III, returned to Texas with a plan of his own. With burdens as heavy as my own secrets, he needed a distraction.
And with a man like him—who could own the boardroom and my body with one gruff gaze from his intense dark eyes—I was down for a distraction too.
Little did we know, his burdens and my secrets are so heavily entwined, there’s no way to untangle them.
I’m a Montgomery.
He’s a Ward.
We might as well be the Capulets and Montagues. Our connection is that rife with drama. That forbidden.
That dangerous.
When the past repeats itself, a distraction is the last thing we need. We need a lifeline as much as we need each other. The vicious cycle has to stop.
It’s life and death.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. A fun uncle battling to destroy his father and a woman from an enemy family seemed like a Hallmark movie. Only, this wasn't a movie. Even with wealth that the Ewings and Carrington families (Dallas and Dynasty For those too young to get my references to old 80's drama) would be envious to have, this felt very relatable. The struggles, family secrets, and responsibilities were the same showing that wealth doesn't save a person from addiction, greed, traumas, and betrayal.
I loved Henry. Good lord, did I love him. He didn't have an easy journey and his baggage was heavy. How he loved a little girl like Nora wax beautiful. It was unconditional. Quinn was a breath of fresh air. I think every moment of her life and the things that brought her to this point, from lies to fighting to be imperfect were all for the purpose of being with Henry and Nora. Her ability to traverse the crap that kept coming in all directions was truly remarkable.
I hate that this family is done because I'm really not ready to say goodbye. However, this author did a good job at saving the best for last.
Henry, Quinn and Nora's story was an emotional roller coaster that pulled at your heart strings and I devoured it.
BA tackled some pretty heavy topics in this book but she did it delicately and with grace, all while developing characters that you couldn't help falling in love with. Henry was everything you wanted from an H. He was protective, loyal and loving. Quinn was wise beyond her years with a heart of gold. The love the two of them showed each other and sweet Nora was filled with all the feels.
Though you could read this story as a standalone dont jip yourself. At the very least start at the beginning of The Montgomery Series, but if you really want the full experience I suggest you read Cam and Paige's story in Athica Lane. You can also get an introduction to Eli in Paths, the second book in The Killer series which I also highly recommend. Basically when it comes to a Brynne Asher book you can never go wrong. Read them all!
I honestly think one of my favorite things about this book is that Henry, Quinn, and Nora were 3 sides of a triangle and fit together so effortlessly it was meant to be. I adore this in stories. I haven't read one like this in a while so it was a definite need.
I love that addiction was one of the conflicts in this story, addiction is no joke and to see the wreck that follows, in everyone's life is heartbreaking yet eye opening.
Henry is.... wow!! He really is my new book boyfriend. There are no word to describe his character. He is an amazing character. I love him
Quinn is a doll and so likeable.
Overall this story was just incredible. Brynne really does have a way to bring characters to life and is amazing in her story telling. All of her books are instant attention grabbers.
You will never go wrong with her books! EVER!
This latest installment of the Montgomery's did not fail in riding that roller coaster of emotions. The author did not fail in keeping you glued to the page from beginning to end. I hate to see this series to end.

Henry and Quinn crash into each other's lives quite literally, whilst both moving into the same building after some huge life changes. For Quinn, she's escaping, for Henry he's returning to the one place he never wanted to be.
When it turns out they're next door neighbours, they decide to explore their attraction, only to find their lives more ingrained than they ever guessed they could or would be, which leaves them having to decide if being together is worth the fight.
As truths and lies are revealed, add into the mix the addition of a 4 year old permanent house guest, this pair are thrown into domesticity rather quickly, lucky for them both, there's no place they'd rather be.
Henry is an intense, hot as heck alpha, cut throat businessman, set to right the wrongs of his father, whilst Quinn has lived a sheltered life protected by her overbearing parents, now out in the real world after finding out her life was a lie, but together they are perfection. I loved every second of this story, there are twists and turns, heartbreak and a beautiful romance all tied up with a humourous bow in the form of the Montgomery family. An absolute 5* read every day of the week, and one I will be going back to time and again. Do yourself a favour and read this book, read the whole series, in fact, read everything in Brynne's backorder catalogue, you'll thank yourself for doing it!
