A fierce Englishwoman on the run
A Highland Laird who needs a proper wife
And a desire neither can resist
Athena Trappes thinks she's in love...until she discovers the scoundrel only wanted her as his bit on the side. Enraged, she does what any spirited Englishwoman would do: set fire to his belongings, incur his dangerous wrath, and flee―immediately. With nowhere else to turn, she seeks freedom in the wilds of Scotland.
Highland Laird Symon Grant lost his wife years ago, and it's his duty to find another. Athena is not exactly what the clan has in mind for him, but Symon's heart burns with unexpected passion for the woman who would risk everything to be free.

That is why I chose Mary’s book in the first place and when she forces half of the book to take place in some kind of proper court I get pissed and skip half the book. Just skimming through the whole nonsense. I loved all the time in Scotland, but as soon as we get to England or France I get so mad at the characters she writes for those places it turns me off the book.
I will probably read Brenda’s story because I’ve waited a long time for it, and she had a horrible time in pervious books. I want her to have a happy ending. But I will be so so disappointed if she writes most of it to take place in court or in England.
My main problem is Brenda. I really like her so much the end of this story was a real mood downer. I sincerely hope she gets her real adult love who is everything she needs him to be in the next book. She deserves it. Will and that second son Brenda is forced into marrying need to die painfully. What happened to Uncle Henry? And the merchant?
I thought the beginning of this story was enchanting, but somehow it promised more than it delivered. I sincerely hope the second part of the Grant family saga delivers more than it promises. I am anxiously awaiting May.
This book was such a page turner. I hated every time I had to put it down and deal with life. I have been waiting for Symon and Brenda’s loves to find their way to them for years now. I couldn't believe it when Mary finally delivered Symon’s story and took him off the market. Now I get the pleasure of seeing Brenda wreak havoc in Griswell’s life and stir up lust in Bothan Gunn’s life.
Athena is fierce and feisty. Symon is strong, possessive, protective but unpresuming as well.
Just what I love!
Mary Wine’s nitty-gritty description of the world the characters move around is so vivid I could almost feel it—smell it. It’s like being transported to that time. I’m never disappointed and I’m always left craving more.
I feel so sad whenever I finish one of Mary Wine’s book. There’s always a poignant tone at the end all of her stories. Thankfully Brenda and Bothan story will be out in a few weeks.
