The Omega War is over, but conflict continues.

The Peacemaker-enforced ceasefire brought an end to the hostilities, but the Mercenary Guild’s moratorium on new contracts has given the other guilds time—and freedom—to redress long-standing grievances. It has also led to a mindset of “while the cat’s away, the mice will play,” and many are taking liberties they would have not normally.

On Earth, the Golden Horde continues to rebuild, because Sansar Enkh has a good idea of what’s coming. In addition to rebuilding her forces, she knows the Humans will need all the advanced tech they can get their hands on, so she sends Captain Markus “Spartan” Nicolos to search the home world of the SalSha for remnants of Kahraman tech.

The mission is a two-pronged one, as the SalSha leader Thorb needs to return to the world of his birth to recruit new pilots for his war-depleted bomber wing. He also needs to stop along the way at Capital Planet in hopes of getting the SalSha recognized as a mercenary race.

Nothing is as it seems, though, and forces are jockeying in the shadows for power, through all means possible—both legal and not. The team of Spartan and Thorb leave Earth heavily armed and armored…but will it be enough?

The authors did an excellent job adding some humor in certain parts that added to the story while still introducing new wrinkles in the overall story arc. You definitely want to read previous novels before starting this one. You'll be lost if you don't. No need to worry though the quality of the previous novels are excellent. So read those first and then read this. You will want to add all of them to your collection.

Between Two Worlds picks up shortly after the Omega War. The Golden Horde is in the early stages of re-establishing their headquarters back on earth and regrouping after their losses. Not helping the process is the surviving SalSha are underfoot and wanting to help. Spartan returns with a small fleet he captured and before things gets too bad with the Thorpe and his crew, he and Thorpe are remissioned to return to Thorpe's home world to find more SalSha volunteers and return them to Earth. Thorpe also wants into the Guild as a member race and things take off from there. A fun story, there is a lot of humor in this one, especially with Thrope's dealings with the Guilds. However, this book is not as tightly written as some and suffers a small bit from that. It does set things up well for the follow-on book where answers about the underhanded dealings of the Guilds could be brought to light. Once again the Pushtal come out on the short end, never catching a break. Definitely a good story, highly recommend it.
